What I'm Reading This Week #25

Hello and happy Friday from the land of the scorching sun.  We are in for absolute Hades conditions the next few days, right on cue for the summer solstice.  You know I'm not happy about that. 😒 Thankfully, my other 50% shade cloth just arrived and is airing out so they can go on in the afternoons.  I have stuff in the big planters that are not fans of scorching heat so I need to be as on it as possible if I don't want it to go to poop for other reasons to add to the current reasons.  (Rain, pests, etc) I'm tryin' y'all!  I just got my little lint rollers to roll aphids/larvae off instead of wasting shipping tape.  I swear to you I have not seen ONE BEE since everything went in.  There was this chubby bumble bee that would hang out when our lilac was in bloom and just zone out levitating so I thought for sure she would be here for it all.  Nope.  The second it bloomed, it was gone.  I haven't seen honeybees at all.  I've checked ...

What I'm Reading This Week #23

Hello there!  We made it to Friday.  Halleluyer!  Did anyone else get that collection of butt hot days earlier in the week?  No thanks.  Oh yeah, you know what's fun?  When you're watering your plants and you're wondering why mushrooms are starting to grow in planters and you check the bottom and realize the reason you got a great deal is because there are no drainage holes.  😤  So I had to tip the planters and drill one big one not only in the 4 smaller ones, which was hard enough but also the two big 16" ones holding the clematises.  Nothing like drowning your plants for 3 weeks.  I mean for real, who sells those?  I've never in my life bought planters that didn't have drainage holes.  So there's a tip for you to make sure you check your planter bottoms before planting anything.  Oh then yesterday, I went out to water after a super hot day and brought the tape out in case I saw nasties on the leaves.  Well, I'll spare you the pics of the tape but it took everything in me not to barf.  I threw together a spray with insect soap and sprayed it after the tape treatment.  Apparently I have to do that kind of check twice a week.  I already have a farmers tan even though I usually wear sunscreen.

I had my annual "let me see if you've got vulva cancer" appointment.  She brought a friend, some midwife shadowing her.  I would really appreciate being asked before letting someone else come in and see my bits.  So, in me fashion, I welcomed her to my obese vag area.  The gynie was saying things that made me wonder if she even remembered who the hell I was or looked at the wrong file before she came in.  She told the midwife I had VIN 3 and it was VIN 1 which I corrected her on the second time and said "uh, you told me it was VIN 1, did something change??"  "That's right.  No, 1 or 3, I'd be treating it the same way."  Okay well if you told someone they had stage 1 cancer or stage 3 there would be two different reactions to that so maybe to you it's no different but to me it is!  Then she said she liked my hair dark.  Um, it's always been dark.  And it's longer.  Nope, it's not.  I was relaying this to the Mr who laughed and was like "you want to say "please...just stop.""  That's about right.  I know she see's a lot of people, a lot of punani's and a lot of stressful situations but yeesh.  Also, when she was getting ready to leave, she said "I heart you.  See you in October."  I heart you?  You're 41.  You're lucky my throat punch reflex was stifled by my racing heart rate and faint reflex trying to be suppressed wondering if I would leave with all of my poontwatus in tact.

Now let's punch into:

The Best Squat Variation For Stronger Quads Without Knee Pain  (Hmm, I've got these bands, I wonder if I could use the base of our weight rack for the "pole."

8 'Healthy' Habits That Could Actually Shorten Your Lifespan  (Interesting but makes sense for sure.)

How to Increase Stamina at Any Age (All very good tips since I feel like I'm starting at zero.)

The Elevator Trick: A Surprising Way to Fall Back Asleep  (With my luck I'd be getting on the elevator in the Hancock Building.  Anyone who laughed at that because they've ridden it and knows it rockets like a freight train and you fear you're going to shuttle into the Earth's core, high five 🙏  But seriously, will have to try this and hope I can get the other visual out of my head.)

I Always Bring a Travel Router on Vacation—Here's Why  (So do we and one of us works in computers so...)

‘WTF With Marc Maron’ To End After Over 15 Years  (Sigh, sad to hear.  Marc got us through the early months of the pandemic with his IG lives.)

I'd like to get a little cleaning done this weekend.  I know the Mr is probably going to be studying here and there for a big test he has next week and has been studying for months.  We will both be ready for that to be over.  He's had to study two hours after work every night this year and when you couple that with the rest of the crap hanging over us, it'll be nice to at least have one thing down.

What are your plans for the weekend?

  2. Happy Friday! Tonight I'm getting together with some former work besties! I've got some brush to chainsaw down and drag to my back 40 from my big pine we took down last weekend, get a haircut, stain a shelf, hang some curtains, clean up the truck and post to sell, hang a closet light, strip the beds and laundry, clean the garage, grocery shop, anchor my lawn decorations, get a tire fixed, file paperwork and hopefully schedule a massage.
    Have a great weekend!

  3. So glad you got through your appt!! It was a crazy week here so I'm pooped. A friend from church gave me a cherry tomato plant (I've named him Tom), so I went to HD and got what I needed to fill an old container I had at home. Spent almost an hour getting the fella all set up, wrestling the hose (got drenched from the old nozzle malfunctioning), and on the deck in a good spot...and 3 hours later we had a massive rainstorm. 😂😂 I bought a few flowers for the bridge out front too. This weekend will be house stuff I've been putting off for too long. Looking forward to getting some stuff done. I hope you guys have a great weekend!! Next weekend you can celebrate the Mr being done with his test after a grueling study schedule!!
