What I'm Reading This Week #25

Hello and happy Friday from the land of the scorching sun.  We are in for absolute Hades conditions the next few days, right on cue for the summer solstice.  You know I'm not happy about that. 😒 Thankfully, my other 50% shade cloth just arrived and is airing out so they can go on in the afternoons.  I have stuff in the big planters that are not fans of scorching heat so I need to be as on it as possible if I don't want it to go to poop for other reasons to add to the current reasons.  (Rain, pests, etc) I'm tryin' y'all!  I just got my little lint rollers to roll aphids/larvae off instead of wasting shipping tape.  I swear to you I have not seen ONE BEE since everything went in.  There was this chubby bumble bee that would hang out when our lilac was in bloom and just zone out levitating so I thought for sure she would be here for it all.  Nope.  The second it bloomed, it was gone.  I haven't seen honeybees at all.  I've checked ...

Celebration Weekend Recap

It's Monday again.  How do they keep coming faster?  Did you get a lot done this weekend or spend it getting into mischief?

We started off the weekend right with a Friday night viewing of Spaceballs to honor the newly released news of Spaceballs 2.  It was kind of funny because all I could hear during the movie were the times my dad laughed at certain parts when we went to see it in theaters.  I'm glad I have a few good memories like that of him.

Several weeks ago, the Mr saw some travel article about an old school donut shop he wanted to go to sometime.  (We're suckers for the old school places over the decorate a crappy cake donut places.)  This was how he wanted to celebrate his well earned victory on his test last Thursday.  We were on the road pretty early.  I knew it was supposed to rain in the morning but we didn't care for the dubious looking clouds.

It went from ominous to sheeting rain:

It got to 5 ft visibility at one point which was not fun.

It finally got more manageable and we made it to the shop to pick up the goods and eat breakfast.  We were very happy they were still big instead of this BS 'eclair' look the local donut shops are heading toward.  Don't get me wrong, you pay out the butt for big but I'd rather pay a higher price than a high price and 1/3 less product.  (Like everything else.)   We drove a little bit and poked around a nostalgia candy store and picked up a few stocking stuffers to save.  (Christmas is just over 6 months away...start saving your pennies or get on those Christmas crafts!)

When it was time for lunch, we ordered a small 9" deep dish.

We picked up a few geocaches in the area including one at a farm that was cleverly hidden which I really appreciate.  So many of them now are either on major trails or under light pole skirts and you look like you're picking up a drug deal because they're usually in empty pill bottles.   Something that is quick but hidden with a fun twist is always appreciated.

When I can find a point of interest, I like to add it to the mix so we went to pay our respects to a late boomer/Gen X icon.

We paid respect to the most fabulous center square, Paul Lynde, watching a compilation of his best one liners.  I found this positively campy Halloween special he did with the amazing Margaret Hamilton, Donny and Marie and Witchiepoo.  I have to say, it's much better than doom scrolling so commit to watching/skimming it tonight or this week.   It was nice to get out of the house and celebrate the Mr's success.

Sunday was a bit of a recovery day even though we didn't do much the day before movement wise.  We watched a little tube, I made brunch and the Mr changed the cartridge from the company on our 3 month old Delta faucet that was dripping like a mofo down the back.  (So much for buying into the well known brand is the better brand theory after trashing our other one because it was a no name.  Sigh)  He'll be contacting them today to get them to send us a new one.  This is why you always register your products!  Then we went down and did a strength workout and that was about it for our weekend.

How was your weekend?  Do anything fun or productive?

  1. Even with the crazy driving rain, it was worth it to get out and do something other than study so I'm glad we went. The weekends are flying by though!
