Non Scale Victories This Week

During last night's LIIFT 4 Shoulders workout, I saw an improvement over last weeks shoulder presses.  I was unable to do the 2nd and 3rd sets last week overhead after about 3-4 presses.  My left shoulder would literally fall like I'd lost all muscle control with 10 lb weights.  Yesterday I used the same 10 lbs and it wasn't until the 7th rep on the second set that I started to feel bad fatigue but pushed through.  On the third set my shoulders were shot but I was still able to push overhead even if slower.  I pushed to fatigue but didn't have that dangerous muscle drop I had before. The zinnias I grew from seed are mostly in full bloom and I took some pics before cutting some to put in a little vase. What were your non scale victories so far this week? ==================== Get posts sent straight to your inbox on Follow It . Hump Day Poll: Best Advice

What’s the best piece of advice a family member has given you?

Grandma always said "people don't need to know your business."  I think a lot of that attitude was seeing how gossipy her kids were and still are, just as her own sisters tended to be.  One in particular was known for screwing up a lot but she also told on herself so she gave the others fuel to gossip about her.  It was also implied "if they gossip to you, they'll gossip about you."  That always stuck with me and as a result I carried my cards close to the vest after that just like she did.  I know if I tell my mom something, she would tell my aunt (who would tell her husband and one if not both of her kids) and vice versa if I confided in my aunt.  Now they have a friend who is as close as a sister and she would be included in that as well so I don't tell the family anything I don't want getting out or that is too personal.  It does suck sometimes but I'm thankful to have the Mr and a few really close friends whom I trust to keep my business mine.

  1. I had trouble getting to sleep last night actually and it made me think about a time when I was going to start school after summer one year and I was having the hardest time getting to sleep. My dad must have heard me up and I told him I was having a hard time and he said just to close my eyes and rest and that would be enough even if I couldn't fall asleep. Of course I ended up falling asleep after doing what he said and to this day that sticks with me. It still doesn't always make me fall asleep completely but I can calm myself just by knowing that even just rest is enough if that is all you can muster.

  2. My husband’s mother, one valuable thing she said when we were building our house, was to put in deep drawers, not cupboards. (It might be the only valuable thing she ever said.) It was certainly true, and I am thankful I heard it. I just have a couple specialty cupboards (vertical storage for trays/cookie sheets/cutting boards and another horizontal one with lots of shelves for things like 9x13’s). The rest are drawers, love it.

  3. My Mom always says there us someone worse off then you are. Helps put my woes in perspective

  4. I have an aunt who told me within the past ten years or so: "Don't live backwards." It stuck with me and helped me to begin the way I view what I can't change, what I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.
