What I'm Reading This Week #27

Happy Friday everyone!   I hope you've got the day off to enjoy.  I would really appreciate the weather dialing it back from Satan's taint to dryish heat please.  I'm not even asking for much.  Like 83 degrees would make me happy at this point but there's no end in sight to the 90's.  The Mr and I have both been plagued with migraines this week.  He had a two day event and I had an ocular migraine which is just so crappy to deal with since you can't read or do anything until your vision isn't screwed up.   I got to wait on hold for an hour Tuesday with the state tax department so I decided to sand and prime the newel post while listening to hold music designed to make you hang up.  To quote Bugs Bunny "he don't know me vewy well, do he?"  I got that squared away and later went out between pop up storms to deadhead some zinnias which you may have seen in Wednesday's post.

Speaking of Wednesday, it was a busy day in the garden.  Because of downpours for a week, I hadn't been able to get out there since I attacked the looper worms.  I pulled all of the insect bags off of the buckets and checked my brassicas and I'll be darned if there wasn't a single worm.  So that spray I got was definitely the way to go!  I figured it was time to pull the carrots I planted a month ago and see if I was dealing with the same zero crop the radishes were giving me.

They're about half the size they should've been but I think that's my fault because I didn't thin them when I planted them.  I got them all washed up and they made a triumphantly little topper on our salad.

Hopefully the next batch will grow a little longer but I did like the tip I got on IG to push the carrot down first then pull up for easier extraction.  Worked like a charm especially with a wee one I probably would've lost.

Thursday I did something you gardeners are going to say I got roped by but I got dahlias.  A nursery was having a sale for 70% off and there was still time to plant since dahlias grow fast in heat.  Given our Fall isn't exactly cold anymore and it can be hot into late October, early November, I figured I was only going to be out $15 for two varieties.  I planted white Willem in three containers.  For out front I got Lakeland Autumn Dahlias which will be orange so I thought if they did take, I would have some freeish flowers for the table for Fall.  I decided because of the price I would try the method of storing them in a cardboard box over the winter in the basement after digging them up.  I'm thinking of marking where the edge of the tubers are with old stakes so I will know where to safely dig.  I will have to amend the soil, oh yeah and remove a tree before I can do that so I guess you know what we're doing today.

Here are our workouts for the week:

Monday- Air Drumming.  (The Mr was sick with a migraine so I went down and put on my aggressive battle rope playlist and drummed along.  I was WHIPPED afterward.)
Tuesday- LIIFT4 Shoulders
Wednesday- LIIFT 4 Legs
Thursday- Turbo Fire 45
Friday- LIIFT 4 Chest and Tri's

Now let's lift into:

A Guide to the Muscles You Forget to Exercise  (I fully support tendon day.  I've been using these the past few weeks to train my muscles going into my peroneal tendons to try to relieve foot pain.)

How to Build Endurance for a Stronger Heart and Muscles  (I'm getting antsy not seeing much improvement but one month down and two to three more to go I guess.)

Want To Spice Up Your Squat Game? Try Any Of These 12 Variations  (OMG, #6 looks like an absolute butt kicker!)

What Really Happens to the Labia After Menopause  (I got a serious unwanted education going through my VIN 1 issues before diagnosis.  Seeing pics of lichen planus and other conditions where the poon just friggin goes white and basically deflates was HORRIFYING.  Why?  Because again, our medical professionals fail us.  We should've been told long ago what can happen instead of getting bitch slapped with it in peri menopause.)

How to Deep Clean a Ceiling Fan Without Making a Mess  (Yes, this works especially with an old one or one you use specifically for that purpose.  Also make sure you wipe it down with a cleaning wipe after because while the method may get most of it, it never gets all of it.  Or use the dryer sheet method to get the extra dust off and supposedly repel future dust.  I never remember that until after I do it.)

The Hidden Connection Between Comedy and Depression  (This hit home in the worst way)

People who keep their cell phones on "silent mode" share similar psychological traits  (Me.  I am people and they are spot on.  I don't look at my phone until we're upstairs.  I'm on my laptop during the day but I can't do audible notifications.)

Miss a post this week?  Catch up below:

We've got some cookout food squirreled away so depending on how hot it is, we might grill out.  If it's too hot then no thank you or at least under the umbrella but eating inside because don't nobody wanna sit out in swamp ass heat even under an umbrella.  AC for the win.

Any plans this weekend?

  1. We are going grocery shopping together at a big store we don't get to very often to stock up on some stuff. Then working in the the spare room to bring some extra computers, monitors and keyboards to the basement, which will clear off the work table. I'll be outside for a bit working on my flower pots on the back deck. Hoping the humidity won't be too bad. Have a wonderful holiday weekend!!
