What I'm Reading This Week #33

Good morning to you!  Friday is finally here and that's a good reason to take a hooky day.  You know, for mental health reasons. 😁

Remember when it felt like you had to give an actual excuse when you wanted to call in back in the day?  Then if you said you were sick and you really just wanted to go to lunch, a movie and maybe hit the grocery store on the way home, you had to pray you didn't run into anyone from work to bust you, like it was illegal or something.  🙄  I guess that's something that's changed for the better is not having to lie about why you're out.

The workouts this week have been absolutely kicking our butts!  We thought the band workout was hard then I was like "we should do Powerstrike to see where we are".  Remember that dream sequence in Dumb and Dumber where Lloyd puts the dude's heart in a doggie bag, folds it up and hands it to the guy?  It was like Powerstrike doing that with our asses.  Then the following day was a killer Fitness Blender squat/deadlift workout that immediately made me sore.  Then it was air drumming which feels super fun most of the time then afterwards you feel just what a whole body workout it was!  No mas!!  Si mas because Thursday was this upper body torcher. Who designed this schedule?!  Oh wait. 😝  For mobility's sake, tonight is going to have to be something light like Walk Away the Pounds or I'm going to tip over into a heap.  But I have to say, I'm really proud of us.  We're two and a half months back into strength training and while I can feel those muscles starting to pop out, it's definitely different.  They're buried deeper than they were before and that's disheartening sometimes when I'm feeling around for them.  I know the Mr is incredibly frustrated with his shoulders and the lack of weight he can lift right now.  I have a very back and forth thing happening where I feel like I am moving forward but the next time I try to do the same exercise, I might poop out quicker or need to lower my weight to finish.  In a different mindset, I might say screw it, it's not working but I know that's not true.  It takes three months to see any true progress on gains and I have already seen progress in both of us.  The Mr is more stable on his shoulder presses now when he could barely get through five when we restarted and he had to stop a few times.  The shoulder drop that was uncontrollable for him before isn't there even if he feels like it could happen, it's not.  I am getting stronger but know I need to work on my balance.  It's hard to remember form over weight size when you're just trying to get back where you were but we have to do it or we'll injure ourselves.  Egos must be checked at the door right now and I don't have a choice but to be okay with that.  Ragging on myself for getting back to square one does me no good so I will choose to focus on taking advantage of newbie gains that I wouldn't have gotten if we'd kept it up originally.

I made some progress on the newel post this week which feels good given how long this project has been flapping in the wind.  (Almost a year!)  I hope it turns out well so I can show you guys soon.

Now let me show you:

How Strength Training Can Help You Burn Fat, No Treadmill Required  (Definitely something everyone should be doing.  I'm so glad we got back into our routine even if I curse a lot while doing it.)

'As a 53-year-old PT, the 7 exercises in this 15-minute workout are essential for women 40+'. (I gotta say, she's not wrong.  These are great moves.)

How To Futureproof Your Body For Summer Any Travel, From A PT  (This is good for road trips too because man they can take it outta ya!  We have a traveling PT office in our car.  Lacrosse balls for rolling da feets, a mini roller stick for those out of the blue leg cramps and always wear some comfy compression socks!)

3 Steps to Workout Motivation, According to Experts (All good things to consider.  For me, I just poke my top tire like Baymax)

Sleep apnea relief comes by blowing through this iconic shell  (I wonder if you could get the same results using one of those lung devices they have you use after surgeries?)

Instagram Now Lets You Share Your Location. Here's How To Turn It On Or Off. (Beyond irresponsible and dangerous!  It should be noted people are doing that and it's still on for some people.  Go into your Settings, Apps, select IG (or really all apps) and turn off permissions for location.)

GoFundMe for Nightmare on Elm Street 2 star  (I know that one gets a lot of crap but if you were a teen when it came out, you may have had a crush on Jesse.  Mark Patton is in dire straits right now from several diseases at once.  If you can't donate, please share the campaign if you're an Elm Street/80's fan)

'It's a reminder of childhood': How Pac-Man changed gaming - and the world  (For my Gen Xers!  If you want to relive the nostalgia here's a special edition Pac Man Atari to shut out the world.)

I did do some fall decorating last week and I need to finish up which requires me to go through the armoire so I guess that's on the agenda.  Hopefully we'll find a little mischief to get into but it's going to be hotter than the devil's ass crack so not likely anything outside.  🥵

What are you into this weekend, my pretties?
