Not so easy off, walk in da woods and changing goals

Happy Hump Day all!

Yesterday I had to clean the oven after the turkey decided to leak juice on half of the bottom.  I knew if I didn't tend to it soon it would just bake in and everything I cooked would have that gross burnt taste to it.  I got a knock off Easy Off and it doesn't work well.  I got a good amount of stuff off but it still needs some work.  I made a recipe so I spent most of the day cleaning the kitchen, making it, taking pics for you guys, etc.  I'm hoping to get it together and posted tomorrow.

The Mr had to get his board replaced because the fin box started pulling back.  The down side to that is all the hard work he did to get his D rings just right was chucked out the window.  So he had to blow up the new one and glue down the D rings again which they thankfully provided.  We had a 14' paddleboard in the middle of the workout area so I figured we'd go for a walk in the park the last hour of light we had.

This was the one patch of color we could find.  The leaves were mostly on the ground by now but the bugs were still out in full force.  I can't wait for the killing frost so they can go bye bye for good.  We had a good talk about the job while we walked and how our goals have changed for this point in our lives.  We are still going to look for other positions within his company but ultimately if he could get a telework position, we could hop from state to state for a few years.  We used to think Hawaii was the end goal and maybe for retirement it may be part time but we're in an exploring phase in life.  Our last two major vacations have been major road trips and it's been a blast.  I don't know that we're necessarily RV types or anything because draining our feces and urine doesn't sound like a road I want to go down.  But I think we've got some good mainland trips left in us before we sit on a rock until the sunset of our lives.  Not to mention I'd like to go to Paris someday.  (I won't even tell you that the other day I was ready to move to Surrey, England to live in a turret house and we've never been there.  I was going to do cottage food out of the home and sell it at markets.  I didn't think about this at all.)

After our walk, we dropped off the Modcloth return.  I hate buying online but if I would've read the reviews before buying the shirt, I would've seen they suggest you order two sizes larger.  Kind of ridiculous because it should be the size it says it is.  I looked like a stuffed sausage in a busted casing so I had to order the other size and send it back.  I will post a pic if the other size works out because it is a super cute shirt.  When we got home, I made dinner...

BBQ pork chop and a sneak peek at the sweet potato recipe.  It looks a little more shriveled because I had to reheat it.  By the time we get to the end of it, they'll probably look like prunes...tasty, mapley prunes.

I think we're going to try to sneak in a paddle tonight for our workout but we'll have to be quick about it with sunset being so early.  Oh yeah and note to self:  don't forget that mosquito zappy thing because you know they'll be out!

How have your life goals changed from 10 years ago?

  1. It was a nice walk and I loved how you were crunching the leaves along the way. Just as you said, that's what fall is for!

  2. I wish I had a pretty place like that to walk. City park is nice, and there is a walking trail around it, but going around a 2/3 mile loop repeatedly gets old. Getting as much paddling as you can in before winter sets in is a great idea. I know passing up the chance to move to Hawaii was a hard choice, but you know you made the right one. I like to travel too, and your idea of doing more of that sounds like a goods one.

My son is 9 - so pretty much every goal I had 10 years ago is different now.

  3. I love the picture of the walking trail. That's the most color I've seen almost all season. We've had some color, but I just went to the forest preserve with the dogs on Monday and most of the leaves were on the ground and already brown. Sigh.... I like that you guys are discussing different options for your future. There's a whole world to be seen and you guys are aces as travelling, so you have many adventures awaiting you. I went to England and Paris by myself when I was 19 and loved it. I went to several countries and I have to say that Germany was my favorite (never thought I'd like the place and it was absolutely gorgeous!), so I encourage you guys to hop overseas and the enjoy the heck out of it. I'm kind of in that "regrouping" stage right now in my life and trying to figure out what my goals are and how they've changed from a decade ago. I don't have a good answer to that question yet, but it's definitely a work in progress.

  4. I love that picture, I love beautiful walking trails, that is why I walk state parks in Wisconsin. I wish I could do it more often.
I love the looks of your meal too. I need to think about upping my food prep.
