Non Scale Victories This Week

During last night's LIIFT 4 Shoulders workout, I saw an improvement over last weeks shoulder presses.  I was unable to do the 2nd and 3rd sets last week overhead after about 3-4 presses.  My left shoulder would literally fall like I'd lost all muscle control with 10 lb weights.  Yesterday I used the same 10 lbs and it wasn't until the 7th rep on the second set that I started to feel bad fatigue but pushed through.  On the third set my shoulders were shot but I was still able to push overhead even if slower.  I pushed to fatigue but didn't have that dangerous muscle drop I had before. The zinnias I grew from seed are mostly in full bloom and I took some pics before cutting some to put in a little vase. "So bad, it's good"

Oh man did we step in it last night!

When we were on our tour of Sleepy Hollow Cemetery in the evening, we were taken into the receiving vault.  The outside was apparently used as the Collins vault in the movie House of Dark Shadows.  (affiliate link)  Dark Shadows was before my time but the tour guide gave it a glowing review saying "it's so bad, it's good!"  They have a soft spot for it as demonstrated in one of the holding vaults inside.

It was filmed at Lyndhurst in Tarrytown which was about a mile from where we stayed and I wish we'd had time to tour it while there.  I found that TCM was playing it during the day yesterday and DVR'd it and "surprised" the Mr with it last night.  I can always take into account different technologies and such and I suppose back in the day it would've been quite the thriller but it was a true B movie if there ever was one.  It was cool to see Sleepy Hollow cemetery in there though and be able to say "hey, I've been there!"  I also enjoyed seeing Tyne Daly's husband on Cagney and Lacey as the Renfield like character Willie Loomis.  It was pre-moustache and beer pooch.

What I loved were some of the fashions of the day.  Julia had some awesome kind of swinger look going on where she always looked like she'd just rolled out of bed with a dude with a 5" mustache and should have a martini in one hand and a cigarette in the other.  Elizabeth was the matriarch of the family with either a Jackie O look during the day or these long, flowing late 60's peignoirs with trippy colors at night.  Fabulous!

So if you're looking for a good B movie, rent it or if you were a fan of the show, add it to the library.  Just don't be like the Mr and fall asleep.  Don't worry, I snapped his underwear band in the middle of the night for retribution.

Our workout was a killer as the folks at Fitness Blender turned us to mush with their double kettlebell workout.  575 calories and two burnt shoulders later and it was time for dinner.

I had some black rice in the pantry that I'd been neglecting so I made that along with orange mahi and brussels.

Looks like the perfect Halloween dish especially since Brussels look like little brains.  HA!

Not sure what we're doing tonight since the Mr has to work late.  I know he says what time it'll go to but it's always 2 hours longer than he estimates.  So that means separate workouts for us today.  Pfft.

What's you're favorite B movie?

  1. I love B movies - I can't pick just one, although some are so bad I can't watch and some are brilliant.

    1. I like the ones you can bear through and not the ones that are like "yeah...I'm done." :-)

  2. You've heard of "The Room" by Tommy Wiseau, right? It's only the most awesomely awful film ever created! It has a crazy cult following because of how hysterically bad it is. Terrible acting, incoherent plot, HILARIOUS sexy time scene. If you've never seen this movie, you must!

  3. It was neat to see the places we just visited but that was about the only thing I enjoyed about the movie, obviously since I fell asleep. I can see that it was probably scary enough for its time though and it is a bit of a shame that it didn't hold up.

    1. Yes it was and no, it didn't. LOL I think if we'd visited Lyndhurst, we might've had a stronger connection to it.

  4. Just watched Housebound with my husband and I really think you'd like it, based on other movies you like. It's actually really quite good and wasn't what I was expecting at all! Give it a whirl and let me know what you think!!!

    1. As long as there's no gore in it. Mama doesn't do modern gore! ;-)

    2. No gore; because I don't like gore either! :) Just a really good "ghost" story with a twist and some comedy! Let me know if you watch it!
