What I'm Reading This Week #26
Well you made it to Friday! I don't know where y'all are but unless you were near Glacier National Park that got snow this week, you were probably boiling in your own pudding to quote Charles Dickens. I do not dig 90 degrees by noon and it feels like everything is frying left and right including us. Most of the week I had the 50% shade cloths on the veggies to attempt to save as much as I can. I need to get the next batch of lettuce in the shade planter to see if I can successfully grow there over the summer since it never gets direct sun. I told the Mr the other day I feel like nothing is in the right place back there. I have a lot of containers and I don't know if I need to put some of them on a little ledge since the 5 gallon buckets take up so much room or not. The zinnias being in a long planter on the fence were a mistake but they were only put there because I had so many extras and didn't want to chuck them. I have a few struggling...
I WISH my food rut looked like yours ; ) I tried rambutan for the first time last week. I really liked them... AFTER I got over the fact that it looks like an eyball that you have to pop out of its shell. VER Ytasty though!
ReplyDeleteGlad you liked them!
DeleteI really need a food rut looking at what you have going on!
ReplyDeleteHappy Friday, enjoy the weekend
It may be a rut, but everything looks really tasty (except the fish, I loathe fish, but to each his own). My food rut doesn't look anywhere near that yummy.
ReplyDeleteI would hardly call that a rut! Looks all very yummy to be, but I have no idea what a rambutan is. Will take your word for it being good :)
ReplyDeleteWow! Can I come to your house for the food rut?? Yeah, I know what you mean though. My rut involves browned ground meats. I keep this in the fridge for those times when I am in a rush or just can't face another meal prep. It actually works out well for me. But I would really like the mahi mahi better! It's been months since I went to Trader Joe's. I am so jealous of everyone who doesn't have to drive 3+ hours each way to get to one! My favorite meal this week was a breakfast of eggs scrambled with summer veggies, some of that aforementioned meat, and dill cheddar cheese.
ReplyDeleteWe had ribs and corn on the cob earlier this week - nothing screams summer more than ribs and corn!
ReplyDeleteI think my favorite dinner will be tonite's. Just bought a bunch of fresh veggies to grill in our new grill basket. They also heat up beautifully. Did have a yummy taco salad last night and Monday I put lean thin cut pork chops in the crockpot before I went to work with some sauerkraut. I love it but I'm the only one. In fact the men in the house complain about the smell as it cooks! You are so lucky to have Mr. on this journey with you. I would love to try any of those delicious looking meals you had this week but they want REAL food--as in lots of red meat.
ReplyDeleteLooks good, but I get what you mean!! We're in the chicken, fish and 96% hamburg rut, big-time! Lots of salads, haven't picked up any corn-on-the-cob yet because the ears are so small at our farm stand up the road. Love the look of your rainbow salad, I'll have to try that. The fruit is good lately, same farm stand has outstanding blueberries, so I'm buying a pint every three days (to the tune of $3.99).
ReplyDeleteIt's got to be the heat we've all had. Thankful the humidity has departed for a bit, heading to my adult niece's place for a cook-out tomorrow, just the "girls". I'm bringing :drum-roll: FRUIT SALAD! And will eat another hamburger. Hey! Wake up! ;)
Have a great weekend!
I really love all the food you eat. I need to be in a rut like this. :)
ReplyDeleteI've been all over the shredded chicken sandwiches (bbq, in my case) lately, especially since I created my version of pineapple-raisin coleslaw. Oven-roasted corn would have made it perfect, but sadly, I didn't have any.
ReplyDeleteI'm actually happiest in my food rut and usually eat the same entree 3 or 4 days in a row. :)
Yum-o! What do you put in your rainbow salad? That looks great!
ReplyDeleteCorn and pretty much any veggie I have on hand. Recipe is forthcoming, I've just been lazy. :-O
DeleteThat's a food rut? It looks good to me! I need to figure out a vegetarian version of that BBQ naan pizza. I LOVE making pizza on naan! Especially the garlic kind. :)
ReplyDeleteI actually wanted to comment on your Weigh In post- but I didn't see the option (maybe you don't allow comments?) Anyway- I could've written that letter to myself last week- I hate the aftermath but LOVE the eating. We just need to keep the ultimate goal in mind, right? Best Wishes!
