What I'm Reading This Week #34

Hello you sassy beast!  Ready for another flip flappin' fantastic weekend?  Yes indeedy, Ally Sheedy. It's been a week of working ahead for me as I try to work on ideas for holiday posts.  I know, no one is ready for Christmas but spit balling stuff is actually getting me excited for the season.  I like to try to give myself the month of December off from writing new posts (except updating weekly happenings) so all I have to do is respond if needed.  It lets me take a little mental break during the holidays to try to enjoy what I can then hop back into the new year hopefully rested and ready to roll.   We did book our 30th anniversary trip, which is the same one we had to cancel this year and of course got travel insurance.  It's just nice to have something to hopefully look forward to and it makes you go "where the heck did 4 1/2 years go?" because it seems like just yesterday we were celebrating our 25th.  Do people even celebrate their 30t...

What I'm Reading This Week #22

Howdy do and welcome to the last Friday of May.  😑  Even though it was a short week, it always seems just a tinge longer than the previous week.  I'm getting antsy because I want to see blooms.  When you're growing from seed, it requires a patience I don't naturally have and trying to keep things from getting to everything before it has a chance to.  Then reading about some God awful hornworm that can just come in and decimate your tomato plants overnight.  It makes me wonder at what point do I put up the insect netting over the bucket veggies.  Other than that, not much else going on this week.

Let's hop straight into:

Does Walking Build Muscle, Burn Fat, or Both?  (The part about e-scooters is often a discussion as kids on them and e bikes rocket past us in the park or on a sidewalk going 20 mph.  These kids are going to have ZERO muscle.)

11 Ways Migraines Are Dangerous for Your Health (Definitely not fun when you're trying to figure out what will work best from shoulder ice packs to peppermint oil on the temples.  I didn't know I needed to worry about this other crap too! )

People in the happiest relationships do 5 things on weekends—that most neglect (Why am I not seeing "share blood supply with furniture and contemplate life choices" on here?)

Romanticizing Your Life Could Be the Secret to Finding Joy in Small Moments (When I do this, I do feel better.  There's a former YouTuber I watched (she's on Patreon now) and I love the pace and feel of her videos.  I would try to imagine mundane things like making tea or taking care of seeds as though I were setting up shots for a video like hers.  Almost using your vision as the lens.  The key is to not turn into the fiery Elmo gif when the romance is interrupted by a microwave slam or incessant barking spree at someone daring to pass by from either neighbor.)

How gardening can help you live better for longer  (That's good to know, especially this year since I'm pits high in greenery I have to look after.)

Steeple chase: Stowe church made whole  (Yay!!  It was so weird seeing it with black scaffolding at the top at Christmas.  Only wish we were there to cheer with the rest of them when they finished the project.)

The growing pains and artistic rebirth of Billy Idol  (I absolutely adored Billy back in the day.  Mom took me to see him in '87 on the Whiplash Smile tour which is my favorite album.  I had a door poster of him and when it was time for a different one, Mom told me to slap it on the back of her door! 😂   (Ahh, it was this picture without all of the writing.)   He's got a new album out now if you need some rock and roll.)

I'm not quite sure what's on the agenda for the weekend.  I have a spackled newel post I've been walking past for a few weeks that needs sanded but I'm not sure if I want to do the kind of work the bottom part needs paint/stain wise yet because it requires some precision.  I do know that we need to get into some kind of stretching routine because neither of us is able to do more than two laps right now and my legs are tighter than they've ever been.  I need some relief.

What are you up to this weekend?

  1. It was a good month overall except for the lack of a real vacation for our anniversary. I kinda hope June gives us some milder temps cause it's been nice, but I know the plants might not be as happy. Have a great weekend everyone!
