Side Eye Skyward Weekend Recap

Hello and Happy Monday to you all!  I hope you had a wonderful, productive, festive weekend.

Friday the Mr got a Redbox coupon and since Clerks 3 was available for rent and it would be free with his codes, we decided there wouldn't be much to lose...except 90+ minutes of our time.  That we did.  If you've heard Kevin Smith talk about his heart attack at any great length and know anything about his career then you've basically seen the film.  There are a few other elements added but essentially it was a lot of cameos and the last 10 minutes was probably the strongest of the film which brought some tears for me.  It gets 4.5 stars out of 1000 reviews so we're clearly in the minority.  So if you're looking for something decent to watch other than the usual Netflix crap and you like Kevin's movies, we give it a solid:

Last week we got this black wrought iron-esque chandlier to replace the one that only mildly needed replaced (not really.)  The second I took it out of the box, I HATED it.  It looked like a monkey threw poop at it and someone was like "quick!  Spray paint it black!"  I didn't think I had time to get a different one so he put it up and once it was up and the light's illuminated the texture even further...oh HELL no.  So obviously it was a process to get a return going which took like 4 days.  I had a replacement for a fraction of the cost in the cart waiting for them to get me back a pre-paid label and the second I got it, I ordered the other one.  It still wasn't exactly what I wanted but that does not exist and there's going to be some serious 'modifying' at some point with the candles.  I was happy to see it was going to arrive a day earlier on Saturday instead of Sunday.

That happiness, as you may have gathered by the title, was short lived.  I hear the Mr grumbling and then he starts cursing his life which is never a great sign.  He thinks the junction box needed replaced.  Of course it does.  He goes to get one, taking the old one with him for size comparison.  When he gets home, he realizes after sawing out some drywall in the ceiling that not only did he need to be looking for the same width but he assumed they were all the same depth.  Nope.  And because we're us, ours is not a standard size.  Back down it came and back to the big orange machine.

Then it's time to get it up, hopefully.  I'm standing there like the statue of liberty mentally pretending I'm in a Survivor challenge of having to hold it with one hand to get through it but would've lost about four times.  The Mr is grunting, groaning and sighing like he's joined the union of any laborer who had entered our home over the past 20 years.  (Homeowner grunting is one thing.  If I'm paying you a crap ton of money, zip your lip and keep your butt crack covered please.)  At one point, things just looked like this:

That was when I lost my mental Survivor challenge and let the bins and box be my arm.  I needed to get to work on some doughs or I was going to be stuck both making and baking the same day which I do not like to do if I don't have to.  (I got all of my doughs made and balled and into the fridge by about 7pm and the kitchen looked like a bomb went off.)  Oh but before that was the little snafu of, you know, the plate of the new chandelier not fitting showing a nice reveal of one side of the hole/junction box.  Not only that but the ceiling got screwed up at some point over the past week and was now going to need painted.  If you think I'm friggin' adding doing a paint match to the ceiling knowing damn well it will NOT match just before Christmas and repaint the whole first floor ceiling, you are new here.  I found a 10" ceiling medallion to cover both the hole and the spot that needs painted and I don't give a crap how it looks at this point.

Ain't nobody gonna see it ever again anyway.

The only good thing that happened that day, I guess, was I bought the Mr an Omnibot sticker from Teepublic for our upstairs robovac.  (Though because they use very spamming looking envelopes he ripped it in half thinking it was junk and thankfully stopped.  Teepublic- use better envelopes!)  He used to have an Omnibot robot when he was a kid and absolutely loved it.  It was his "buddy" as are all robots he acquired including R2D2.  I do not care for robots anywhere near me so it had to get the boot from the bedroom into the office and because it's slim, it can live under the chair.  I noticed when we left and had it on he said "go clean buddy" so I ordered an Omnibot sticker so he could get his little tyke vibes.

(Good Lord, that thing literally lives under a chair, how is it getting so friggin' dusty!?)

In case anyone is wondering, we're really happy with the vacuum and at publishing it's under $200.  You do have to empty it after every run but that's fine because the ones that auto dump are 1) way bigger with a huge base and 2) are at least twice as much.  We just wanted the base model so we could see if we liked it and we knew us and sweeping and vacuuming aren't our strong suits even with hardwood floors telling us "you might wanna grab a broom."

Sunday didn't get much better.  I knew I was going to be baking most of the day so I suggested we just get brunch from a restaurant and they crapped the bed and the Mr was waiting 30 minutes longer than our online order said because who knows if they even got our order.  So it started the day off on a poop note.  Then the Mr had to get my laptop moved from one to the new one I got like 10 days ago and we hadn't even thought about it and of course that was giving him issues.  I baked and wrapped cookies and got boxes ready to send out.  We got in a walk at the park around sunset then came back for a big spaghetti dinner while watching SNL with Steve Martin and Martin Short before settling in to watch Home Alone with a few goodies in bed because we were pooped pups.

Reminder it's the last day to message/email over your Christmas tree if you want to share it in this Friday's post!  ;-)

How was your weekend?

  1. Side eye is right. What did we do in another life to bring the bad luck to this one? In the end though I think things worked out as we figured it out together as always.

  2. Glad to see I'm not the only one who uses boxes and bins to hold things up! Busy weekend for you. Mine was busy with the pooch going for swimming, wrapping presents and doing a wee bit of baking for gifts, getting a new furnace installed, then the usual laundry, grocery shopping, etc. I'm officially done now and I put the tree up while the hubs was at work yesterday and he added two more 100-light strings to it to give it more oomph, so today I added a few simple decorations. Decorating was at a minimum this year but it turned out nice. Hard to believe the new year is here in a few weeks. From July til now it's just gone by in a blink.
