What I'm Reading This Week #34

Hello you sassy beast!  Ready for another flip flappin' fantastic weekend?  Yes indeedy, Ally Sheedy. It's been a week of working ahead for me as I try to work on ideas for holiday posts.  I know, no one is ready for Christmas but spit balling stuff is actually getting me excited for the season.  I like to try to give myself the month of December off from writing new posts (except updating weekly happenings) so all I have to do is respond if needed.  It lets me take a little mental break during the holidays to try to enjoy what I can then hop back into the new year hopefully rested and ready to roll.   We did book our 30th anniversary trip, which is the same one we had to cancel this year and of course got travel insurance.  It's just nice to have something to hopefully look forward to and it makes you go "where the heck did 4 1/2 years go?" because it seems like just yesterday we were celebrating our 25th.  Do people even celebrate their 30t...

Hump Day Poll: Grillin' and Chillin'

We are in full swing of summer, and if you're like us, you've been having a few cookouts.  (Or hoping to when it's not scorching hot!)

We have our staples:  burgers (usually 85/15 organic grass-fed beef), hot dogs (Trader Joe's has these really good ones from Chicago that taste like Maxwell Street Polish) or vegan brats, brioche or Hawaiian buns for both, baked beans, corn on the cob, and chips.

So that got me wondering, especially since food can be so regional...

When you think cookout, what are you must haves?

  1. All of those are my must haves for sure. Potato salad would have been the only extra side at cookouts when I was a kid and I didn't like it much as a kid but sure love it as an adult.

  2. We get 95% ground chuck, the Hebrew beef dogs. Always get poppy seed dog buns. My mom makes the potato salad, everything is chopped super fine. So fabulous!

  3. We have not cooked out once yet this entire year, which is so unusual because that was about 75% of our cooking no matter what the season. But schedules haven't allowed for it so far. When we do grill, it's steaks, chicken, pork chops that I make a fresh pico de gallo for (yum!), burgers, and when the temps are comfortable, I make a cheesy Italian loaf that is amazing on the grill. Tomato and onion salad is on the side if we do cook any type of hot dogs or sausages because I love to put that on the bun. I agree with Dawn...poppy seed buns all the way!
