What I'm Reading This Week #34

Hello you sassy beast!  Ready for another flip flappin' fantastic weekend?  Yes indeedy, Ally Sheedy. It's been a week of working ahead for me as I try to work on ideas for holiday posts.  I know, no one is ready for Christmas but spit balling stuff is actually getting me excited for the season.  I like to try to give myself the month of December off from writing new posts (except updating weekly happenings) so all I have to do is respond if needed.  It lets me take a little mental break during the holidays to try to enjoy what I can then hop back into the new year hopefully rested and ready to roll.   We did book our 30th anniversary trip, which is the same one we had to cancel this year and of course got travel insurance.  It's just nice to have something to hopefully look forward to and it makes you go "where the heck did 4 1/2 years go?" because it seems like just yesterday we were celebrating our 25th.  Do people even celebrate their 30t...

Hump Day Poll: Feeling Crafty

Happy Hump Day everyone!  Can you see Friday from the top o' the hill?

Me either.  LOL

What I can see is my new autumn "wreath" I made yesterday.  I have been looking for the past two weeks for the perfect thing to put on the front door.  For the longest time, I had a really sad twig wreath that I'd randomly tuck faux leaves in.  It looked like it belonged on a home in Sleepy Hollow at midnight.  (But if this Ichabod Crane answered the door, I'd be all over that...)

Sorry, I'm getting off track.

A search on every home goods site and store showed me that chintzy and cheap are the order this fall and the stuff on Etsy was pretty but more than I was willing to pay.  Oh screw it, I'll make what I want myself.  I thought I was going to make a traditional wreath but I just wasn't feeling it.  I wanted something more unique.  So I made this....

It's a tobacco basket with various fall accoutrements.   I like the way it turned out and that no one else has one like it.  It'll take me through mid-November when the tree goes up.  I was just glad it fit between the regular and storm doors without squishing much.  I kind of miss being crafty.  There's something calming about it...until it takes over a room which can easily happen depending on what it is.

What is the last craft you made?  How did it turn out?

  1. You did a great job and I love the way it looks on our door. I've never been crafty at all. Honestly I cannot think of anything I've ever made that was worthy of hanging up anywhere, so be proud!

  2. I was born without a crafty gene. My grandma was and my mom is super crafty, and my son is pretty crafty - but it skipped me. That's a pretty great fall decoration.

  3. That door decoration is so pretty! Very unique and perfect for the entire season. Well done! I'm not nearly as crafty as my mom but when I was younger she and I did a lot of crafts together. She was a natural, while it took more effort on my part. It's been a while since I've made anything crafty, and I want to say the last thing I made was a fresh centerpiece for Thanksgiving. It was a large vase that I used fresh cranberries and orange slices and some mint sprigs and added a beautiful fall flower arrangement. It looked so pretty on the table and I was so pleased with how it turned out. Only lasted less than a week since it was fresh but it sure did look pretty. LOL
