Non Scale Victories This Week

During last night's LIIFT 4 Shoulders workout, I saw an improvement over last weeks shoulder presses.  I was unable to do the 2nd and 3rd sets last week overhead after about 3-4 presses.  My left shoulder would literally fall like I'd lost all muscle control with 10 lb weights.  Yesterday I used the same 10 lbs and it wasn't until the 7th rep on the second set that I started to feel bad fatigue but pushed through.  On the third set my shoulders were shot but I was still able to push overhead even if slower.  I pushed to fatigue but didn't have that dangerous muscle drop I had before. The zinnias I grew from seed are mostly in full bloom and I took some pics before cutting some to put in a little vase. Clean house, family dinner and full calendar

The weekend goes by so fast, does it not?

As usual, we finished cleaning for company as the clock struck midnight the day of.  I've given up trying to change our procrastinating ways.  We literally had all week to do it when the Mr was home and didn't so yeah...at this age, I yam what I yam.  I must say we were quite relieved to finally have the lower level cleaned up.  I just ask that you not look in the guest room/office.  It's much like Carol Anne's room from Poltergeist.

Complete with screaming ghouls.

We had my mom and aunt over for my birthday Saturday.  I made Cheesecake Factory's Mile High Meatloaf.  It was SO good!  We looked through old pictures and watched some college ball.  It was a fun night.

We slept in yesterday and when we finally drug our butts out of bed, I made french toast and we skipped lunch and finished the last of the meatloaf and mashed potatoes for dinner.  We walked a neighborhood with wonky sidewalks and threw my hips out of whack.  But if the weather starts letting up, I want to start walking more.  I want to start walking more anyway so I'll have to keep my eye on the weather and see about putting that into rotation to get my big butt off the couch during the day.

As I look at our calendar over the next 2 months, I see that we are booked all but one weekend.  All of December is booked out as well.  I'm going to have to hold back one weekend in November to breathe.  This time of year our calendar always seems to fill up fast!

What did you guys do this weekend?  When does your calendar start filling up for the holidays?

  1. Love that Poltergeist pic. It was a nice weekend but went fast as always. Can't believe how busy we are and how quickly that calendar does fill up but I am sure it will all be fun.

    1. That room is heinous but for now I'm going to bask in the joy of the rest of the house being done and we'll have to keep it up since we have company every weekend this month.

  2. That sounds like my guest room too. There's a path around the bed so when my folks stay they have a place to sleep, but that's about it. It's a good thing they pack light.

We're not that busy of people, so our calendar doesn't really fill up that fast. I have a class out of town this weekend, and another one in October and hubby wants to spend some time with his sister another weekend, but that's it so far. I know we'll have "stuff", just not yet.

Walking is definitely a good thing to add this time of year. As the weather cools there's nothing like being outside.

    1. I think many people's "guest rooms" are the equivalent of "junk drawers" in a kitchen. :-)

Yep, I'm waiting to see when I can time mine so it doesn't coincide when the creepy, nosey guy in the neighborhood takes his walk. Creep.

  3. Sounds like a good weekend. I'll have to check out that meatloaf recipe. I love meatloaf! Walking is really my only form of exercise, my arthritis makes it hard to do much else. Even walking hurts my knees, but I try to persevere. The weather right now makes it particularly nice to get out in the neighborhood for a walk, and I need to be more dedicated and get out there every day, instead of just a few times a week. Our schedule in August was super busy, we had lots of family birthdays (5!), and then keeping the grandkids for 5 days at the end of the month topped off things. This month is a little slower, although we've got lots of Cornhusker volleyball games to attend, which I thoroughly enjoy. It's not like when we had kids in school, and September signalled the end of a lazy summer. Since I retired, I have lots of time to myself, to do whatever I please, and I am really liking that. It is time to get out the Fall decorations, however. That'll keep me busy for a day or so.

  4. Is it weird that I think old school Richard Lawson looks hot in that pic? Yes. It is so so weird. I'll go sit in a corner now. HA.

  5. It was a good weekend with a great meeting, a lovely walk with the dogs, and stuff around the house that needed to get done. The hubs went grocery shopping while I took care of some things, then we took out the two lawnmowers and got down to business with the tall grass from all the heat and humidity. Watched a lot of college and pro football as well.

As for holidays, I don't fill up my calendar too much. I automatically reserve two weekends every month to be at home doing stuff, so often times my free days don't match up with others'. I don't have a big family so there isn't a lot of that stuff going on and with friends, I try to plan things after the holidays because most people have kids and are busy with that, so I try to stay out of the picture. This year might be different with mom's situation so we might host Christmas at our house instead of hers, so that would be a first in 20 years!
