Scenes from a long weekend

Whew...that was a long, good, not so good for my waistline weekend!

On Thanksgiving, my mom and my aunt presented their respective kids with an advent calendar they made.  Super cute, isn't it?

The Mr and I find it amusing that we got this the day after I FINALLY finished the advent calendar I was working on.  So now we have two advent calendars both with candy in it.  So we've made a pledge that to help make up for the extra calories, instead of fast forwarding through commercials for a show, we'll do push ups, squats or some kind of exercise.  There aren't candy in all of hers though and they're only small ones but you know how little things add up.

Then Friday was time to finish cleaning for the big football games we were watching with a friend.  The Mr gave cleaning the oven the ol' college try.

We'll have to devote more time into the baking soda vinegar method since we didn't have time this go round. That mess is quite stubborn.

I finally got the mantel area done.  I did it gallery wall style this year.  We really like it.

I'm so glad we found our little ceramic tree.  I love the way it looks.

Our friend was kind enough to bring us a gourmet soda sampler from Chicago and of course another famous Chicago treat...

We've always passed this place up because the Mr isn't much of a popcorn eater and the line is always huge.  Let's just say this made him a believer and I have some new fat cells named Garrett.

I was about as stuffed as a turkey

I was bored come Saturday night so we played a round of Taboo.  We cracked up when we saw this 1989 depiction of the people playing the game.  Nice hair, Kid N' Play...

So all in all, it was a great weekend.  I'm left feeling worse about myself and all of the food I inhaled this weekend but I guess I'm in the same boat with others who gorged.  I plan to be good this week but we are taking my MIL out for lunch at a decadent restaurant where healthy options aren't on the menu.  So hopefully just one meal won't blow all the penance work I plan to do this week just to break even.  I think I'm going to barf.

Did you get to enjoy a long weekend?  Did you overindulge?

  1. What a weekend! Thanksgiving was great and lots of great food. You really outdid yourself for the football games and it was nice of our friend to bring the goodies, he picked the right stuff. Waistline is definitely out of control right now so it's time to buckle down a bit and make a plan for Xmas.

    1. Thanks! It was a LOT of cooking and I'm not overly jazzed to do more. Maybe I'll get some black beans going and chuck a bunch of stuff in the crock pot for chili so I don't have to worry about it the next few nights!

  2. It was a nice long weekend. My folks were here the whole time and it was a really nice visit. Mom and I cooked all day Thursday and Friday (hubby was working nights so he slept, lucky sod). Then we just at leftovers Saturday and Sunday with almost no prep. We made your stuffing and a quinoa crust pumpkin pie from one of the links you posted a while back. Both came out well, but the quinoa crust got a little toasty around the edges. If I do it again I'll have to cover the edges like with a regular pie crust.

Since hubby worked Thursday and mom and I were both craving lasagna we made that for Thursday and then did the big turkey feed on Friday so everyone got exactly what they wanted. I did over do it a little, but my biggest problems are restaurants and night-time snacking and I didn't do either the whole time so I'm going to call it a win.

I got the boy an advent calendar at the grocery store. He started it last night and I heard all the chocolates slid from their homes to bottom of the box. I guess you get what you pay for. I'll have to open it from the back and figure out how to put everything back.

I'm glad you had a good weekend.

    1. Yeah I always cover my pie crusts just in case, unless they're gingersnap crusts. (SOOO good) Mmm, lasagna sounds good! I almost wonder if you could melt the back of the chocolates a little bit to use as "glue" and leave it flat all night?

  3. It seems like Thanksgiving came and went so fast. That's how it goes. I'll be eating turkey soup for a couple days yet. I just have to say I LOVE those little ceramic trees. They are awesome. I have to find one myself. Glad you had a good one.

    1. I agree, it came and went rather quickly. We've been looking for the perfect tree for quite a while now and could never find the right color, size, lights, etc. When we saw this one, we had to snap it up!

    1. Thanks! I needed to mix it up a bit this year. I was glad to repurpose that tray into a chalkboard. I could stare at the ceramic tree all night. Not that I'm doing that right now...at all. (I am)

  5. Thanksgiving was great for me. We went to my parent's house, and everyone got along this year. I really didn't want to leave. We played taboo, which I haven't played in years. I made the turkey using your recipe. I am not a turkey lover, but they enjoyed the turkey. My mom always makes a turkey salad and a gumbo with the leftover turkey, so we got to enjoy both. I feel like I didn't get enough, but oh well. I probably didn't need it anyway. We just had an all around great time.
