Menu Planning Hump Day Poll
My mom was solidifying the Thanksgiving menu over the weekend. I don't know why they ask me. I bring the same friggin' things for 10 years now. Mashed potatoes, stuffing and 2-3 pies. (At this point, I just need the bird and I'm basically hosting.)
I know if I don't bring the stuffing, no one will make it because Grandma used to do a side of it (from the box) and it's not Thanksgiving to me without it.
What's the one dish that it isn't Thanksgiving to you if you don't have it even if the rest of the family doesn't care for it?

Thanksgiving for me must include turkey, mashed potatoes and stuffing. Anything else in addition to those 3 is great, but I have never had a single Thanksgiving go by without those 3 must haves and it would not be Thanksgiving without them for me.
ReplyDeleteMy kids need to have my stuffing so I take it if celebrating away from home.
ReplyDeleteNo one else likes green bean casserole. Mom and dad would be fine with sweet potatoes instead of white potatoes, but that's not ok.
ReplyDeleteFor me, it's making the stuffing with sauteed onions and celery. I also make a box of either cranberry bread (cranberry/orange if I can find it but that's very hard to find nowadays), pumpkin, or banana bread. I used to make all three and split them up for my mom in slices so she could freeze them and take them out as she liked. Have done that since I was a teenager, and I just stuck to that tradition. =o)
ReplyDeleteTurkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing and gravy. And it must be the turkey/stuffing recipe we've used for 4-5 generations.
ReplyDeleteIf the only thing served were a pan of cornbread dressing made using my grandmother's recipe, both my mom and I would be just fine!
ReplyDeleteMany years ago I asked everyone what they wanted for Tgiving dinner and I only cooked that. Cranberries and stuffing (for example) were not on anyone’s list. I stopped making them.
ReplyDeleteThis year my youngest (21) is in charge of polling.
And I told her to tell everyone, if it is not on the list, do not assume I am making it, including a turkey.
So far the list has eggplant Parmesan, mashed potatoes and gravy, green bean casserole, deviled eggs, pie.
Sweet potato casserole!
