Football traitor and what I'm reading this week

Finally the weekend!

All I can say is I'm glad football season is over and I don't have to worry about DVRing or getting home for a game any more Saturdays.  I think we might have one more game and I'm okay with that but our team played like punks this year and I started basically rooting for anyone who wasn't us.  I only watched the first game and the rest of them I just hopped online and waited for it to be over.  I think I may have officially checked out of giving a rat's butt about football anymore and I've liked college ball all my life.

But enough of my traitorous football ways, lets get to...

We're doing some Christmas merriment this weekend.  It'll be interesting to see if we say the same thing we've said the past 5-6 years when its done..."I think that's the last time we're doing that."  It used to be an old fashioned village and as time has marched on, they've slowly modernized everything, thereby losing its charm.  I think this is the 20th year we've done it so it might be time to search out something else.  My gut is to say go to Chicago from now on but it would be detrimental to both our wallet and waistline.  We'll see.  Hmm, no.  I'm 100% positive I'd rather be going to Chicago to wander Michigan Ave all lit up but given it's like 50 degrees or something, that wouldn't feel too Christmas-y.  I'm sure I'll think of something.

What are y'all gettin' into this weekend?

  1. Happy Friday! I love checking out your reading links. A couple of years ago I got my brother the rockem sockem robots for Christmas. He literally tore the box in half he was so excited! I have one on hand for our annual family reunions now and it is always played. Ever notice, the red guy always wins? Tonight I'm going out for my annual Christmas dinner with an old friend. We started this tradition about 5 years ago. Prior to that our tradition was to get each other a candle and a bottle of wine for each other. One year she looked at me and said why do we keep doing this? Why don't we set a date each year around Christmas and have a fabulous meal together and catch up? I so cherish this tradition every year. Funny thing is with social media and texting, we don't actually talk to each other all year. Tonight we will talk about how much we have missed each other and vow to get together in person more often. Then, we won't see each other until next December lol. Well, except for tomorrow night. She invited me for the first time in years to her girls Christmas party. It's one of those deals where everyone brings a gift to exchange and steal from each other. Should be a good time. Where do you see all the Christmas lights in downtown Chicago? A few years back a bunch of us went down there and froze our butts off and didn't see squat. Getting that tree decorated tomorrow too. Then sunday is getting that shopping done "early". I will be exhausted after all that clicking lol.
    Have a great weekend!

    1. Thanks! Oh man, what a great gift and what a wonderful memory of him tearing into it! Your tradition sounds wonderful! It reminds me that I haven't had my "ladies lunch" with two older ladies from my old work in 2 years and we keep saying "we need to" but I don't want to let that slip away. It's good you guys do that!

We love strolling down Michigan Ave and looking at all of the windows. I especially love Cartier for some reason. We also love strolling, I think it's Oak St? Of course seeing Millennium Park and the skaters and/or Christkindlmarket (http://www.christkindlmarket.com/)

      Happy Clicking!! :-D

  3. Actually Chicago would be Christmas-y...we were there the weekend prior to Thanksgiving and wandering Michigan Ave and going to eat lunch in the Walnut Room at Marshall Fields (I will not say Macy's) was very festive. And expensive. But lovely.

  4. Today sure was a lovely day in the high 40's and sunny. Mid 40's all week with no snow or rain. I'll take that right now. Chaired a meeting this morning then headed out the 'burbs for my friend's (and mom's friend) art show. Four artists had a show of "compassion art" that all supports animal rescue. Amazing drawings these ladies do-- just phenomenal artistry. And I must say I had a blast in the next room when I walked in and the whole place was filled with SNOOPY!! All kinds of knick knacks I'd never seen before, flags, a giant dog house. It was awesome. It was in a quaint little town by my own stomping grounds in my younger years so that was pretty fun to go to (don't recognize are dang thing over there anymore though!). Getting to visits with some friends really lifted my spirits and today was the first day in a while I didn't feel the sadness trying to overwhelm me. We all knew mom was there with us and I jokingly took the brownie tray my friend was holding and shook it and said, "If you feel that, you know it's mom trying to snag one." We all had a great laugh and reminisced a bit. I handled it a lot better than I thought I would have. Probably helped that I got a little gussied up and put on makeup and cute Christmas earrings for the first time in ages, so I probably didn't look as tired! LOL Tomorrow is football, laundry, and perhaps a few errands if my knee and ankle will cooperate. Enjoy the rest of your weekend!! xoxo
