Unless of course it's Valentine's Day, then it might be time. He always gets a nice long holiday weekend and I always have to work (and this year I work Saturday until noon too--both days by myself!) so when I come walking through the door Friday night the tree is up and he has all our favorite ornaments up (we buy a new one together every year) including all the dog ones from years ago on up to this year. Brings me genuine joy every year. I take care of taking it all down in increments when the holidays are over because he doesn't have the patience to put all the ornaments back in the small boxes! I am not religious anymore but that has stuck with me over the years. I always do it after Thanksgiving. I grew up in NY watching "Miracle on 34th Street". There was a big Macy's near us and there was always something magical about the way everything was plain before Thanksgiving and then all decorated after Santa arrived with the parade.

This year is different, though. My son and his wife just had their second baby and I am in Florida right now with them. I'll be here until December 7th, so the tree won't be going up before then, at least at home. I imagine we will be decorating here before I leave. :)DebbieShttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10858139788709675770noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7381223979507114346.post-56434371261444044362014-11-25T11:06:45.509-05:002014-11-25T11:06:45.509-05:00Thanks! Then I would grab some on vacation and any that aren't along with the color scheme go on the small tree. I'm particular about my tree. LOL I'm sure your son will cherish those ornaments as much as you do. You could even consider keeping the story of the ornament in your handwriting with each ornament. They could be passed down for generations and it would be great to see your handwriting for future generations to be able to connect with you! I too got my (two) tr...What a beautiful tree Anele! I too got my (two) trees up and decorated before our early Thanksgiving two days ago. I have so many memories associated with all my ornaments, it's like an early Christmas when I open up that box and pull them out one by one and remember where I got each and every one. I have Maltese ornaments from the three dogs that are waiting for us at the Rainbow Bridge, as well as a couple of older Bulldog ornaments. I know they were bought for Lola, our dog that was tragically run over a little over a year ago, and a couple new Bulldog ornaments to celebrate our beautiful Bulldog Juno, who has been with us almost since the day we lost Lola and really helped ease our grief. I have ornaments that my Mother made, and this is my 25th Christmas since losing her, so you know how old they are. Some of them are faded and kind of falling apart, but UP on the tree they go anyhow. I try to tell my son, who lives at home still (he's 28), and this year was on vacation, so helped tremendously with the decorating, where the ornaments are from, especially if they were from my Mom, so when I'm gone, he has those memories too. He's got a tremendous memory, and I passed on my love for all things Christmas to him, so I'm hoping they will be as special to him, even though since he was only 4 when Mom passed, his memories of her are very sparse. This is what Christmas is all about to me, memories and family and the beautiful decorations and music of the season. I LOVE it. Almost makes enduring the horrible cold worth it!dupsterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18088114640385927198noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7381223979507114346.post-51003157570158778512014-11-25T10:16:11.124-05:002014-11-25T10:16:11.124-05:00Isn't it a two episode finale for Sleepy Hollo...Isn't it a two episode finale for Sleepy Hollow? So maybe those few minutes you missed will be on the "previously on". I know a lot of shows have crazy long "previously on" before they fire up the new episode.

As for christmas trees, I don't put one up. I just can't be bothered to do all the work when I'm not home much to look at it. My cats don't need me to set up a tree just so they can mess with it while I'm not home. That, and my spouse and I disagree about trees. He likes fresh, I like fake. So we have NONE!JLVerdehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02814082484881071454noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7381223979507114346.post-74177994573680391052014-11-25T10:07:11.623-05:002014-11-25T10:07:11.623-05:00I haven't watched the finale yet, but if my DV...I haven't watched the finale yet, but if my DVR cuts it off too there may be another scream heard 'round the world. I'm addicted to the series record feature, and it's such an improvement over the VHS tapes I always used before, but it infuriates me when it cuts off the beginning or end of a show. With the old VHS you could always add a few minutes at the beginning and end, with the DVR you'd think the coding would get it right but nooooo. Sorry. Last week mine failed to record a show altogether and I'm still a little grumpy. I think the station changed the coding because it's not the first time, but it's always the same channel. Ok..,. off my little rant now.

If it were up to me I'd wait until the week of Christmas and then take it down right after. If it were up to my son it would already be up and would stay up until March. So we compromise - I'll put it up this weekend and we'll take it down right after the first of the year. I like my tree, but I always feel weird putting it up when it's nothing like Christmas outside, and many years at Thanksgiving it is pretty warm (the last two years it was dry, sunny, and like 65 degrees Thanksgiving weekend.) This year we've already had snow so maybe I'll feel better about it.

Random though - I'm trying to find the recipe you posted quite a while back, the mini pumpkin pies with ginger snap crust but I can't remember the name to search your recipes, also the stuffing recipe you posted with the two different kinds of bread. Could you me out? I promise to actually print them this time.

I love the idea that your dog is keeping that ornament for you. That makes me happy to think about.another layerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15756727485274694135noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7381223979507114346.post-68261029814863771462014-11-25T09:37:29.392-05:002014-11-25T09:37:29.392-05:00Aww, thanks!
