It reminds me of a time in our lives when our kids were babies, we were poor and stressed out, and it was the most calming thing in the world for me to listen to. The soundtrack of my teen years has always been Rod Steward Maggie Mae, which dates me, doesn't it?Dianehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15717758915060629723noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7381223979507114346.post-14601082111273931792013-05-02T11:55:04.600-04:002013-05-02T11:55:04.600-04:00Oh man. I'm only a so-so U2 fan, but that album just grabs me.

I used to play it over and over again while doing homework in my bedroom. I was in high school, probably 15 or 16 years old, and it was a time in my life that was full of so many changes, first loves, more serious homework and college prep, and really, truly becoming a young adult.

To this day, whenever I hear it, I'm transported back to my bedroom, with my CD player, electric typewriter, telephone (no email yet!), stacks of notebooks and textbooks, and daydreams about crushes. I listened to it while doing homework in college too, because I simply could not remove it from the rotation.

I don't think there's a particular lyric, so much as the overall sound and feel of the album. It's sort of ethereal, almost like you're hearing it from another era, through some kind of distant speaker. Given that it makes me nostalgic now, that only makes sense. It's like I'm hearing it played from my
CD player in 1992, not my iPhone.Sarahhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14704469867788218608noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7381223979507114346.post-24934986776178732992013-05-02T11:50:05.866-04:002013-05-02T11:50:05.866-04:00I love this post! My favorite lyric and one I (mis)quote often is: My flesh was all too willing, my spirit, God, was weak.

It is how I feel about french fry avoidance.Maiahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08241987679808943020noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7381223979507114346.post-68682311112122306102013-05-02T09:11:17.780-04:002013-05-02T09:11:17.780-04:00The music I like is so cheesy-it's embarrassin...The music I like is so cheesy-it's embarrassing. I am OLD, and love music from the 60's, when I was growing up. That's not so bad, the embarrassing part is how much I LOVE show tunes and their singers. Music does have power to transport you back to a wonderful place in time. My husband loves the Doobie Brothers, and I'm planning (SOMEDAY--FAR, FAR in the future) to have "Long Train Running" played at his service. Do you think the minister will go for that? I have already requested the Helen Reddy tune, "You and Me Against the World" be played at mine.dupsterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18088114640385927198noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7381223979507114346.post-72834376418189670042013-05-02T08:33:46.773-04:002013-05-02T08:33:46.773-04:00I like Sting well enough - but for me the album th...I like Sting well enough - but for me the album that does that is Bon Jovi "Slippery When Wet".
