Indianapolis or bust

Holy balls man, where did the weekend go?

It was quite jam packed...as you can see...

Okay, technically jelly packed but that was my happy thing (one of them) for the 100 Happy Days thingy.  We decided to give this diner a try and they had mixed fruit jelly.  Do you have any idea how happy mixed fruit jelly makes me?  Extremely since I can never seem to find it and it was my favorite as a kid.  I was so excited, the server gave me 4 of them for the road!  Score!

This was in the wee wee hours o' the morning so we could go to Indianapolis, IN to see the only Chesterfield set at a Pottery Barn within three states.

Yes, we made a road trip for a friggin' chair but if we're going to shell out investment style money for a new sofa and loveseat with a no returns for custom orders policy, my butt needs to be sitting on it first.  So in usual "me" style, I did some research to make sure we didn't drive half a day to see something for 5 minutes then leave.  So I put some additional stops on our impromptu tour of the Hoosier state.

Our first stop after the mall, was Broad Ripple Vintage.

I would maim to have that vintage sign in my house.  SO awesome!  It was mentioned in reviews that The Doors would be playing and they didn't disappoint.  I didn't realize it was basically all vintage clothing.  The thing about vintage clothing places (anywhere, not just here) is that they all smell like a mixture of 30 year old leather foot sweat and great grandma's polyester hugs.  It's not necessarily bad, just...distinct.  We enjoyed thumbing through the vintage posters and the lady who wished us a good day, looked exactly like what Iona from Pretty in Pink would look like today.  I was two seconds from asking if I could get my picture taken with her.  Or slow dancing with her to Cherish in a prom dress but I didn't want to interrupt Mr. Morrison.

Our huge breakfast (okay and a cupcake stop) held us longer than anticipated so we went to this HUGE antique warehouse called Midland Arts and Antiques Market.  It cannot be confirmed but I might've pee'd a little upon first glance.

This place was HUGE and the vendors vary quite a bit so there is something for everyone.  There are several things I regret not getting there but I am meeting a friend not far from the area this summer so I think I'm coming with money stacks in my shoes.  You'll take my sweaty foot money and like it!  I'll be the 7' tall woman walking in, salivating.

Pay no attention to the man zebra-ing around...

When I finally glanced at the clock, I realized it was 3ish.  Oops!  The Mr looked like he was considering gnawing on an appendage and before he decided whether it would be his or mine, I decided it was time to make a beeline to our lunch stop, Punch Burger.

I saw it got good reviews and since it wasn't far and it was off peak hours, we might luck out for a nice quiet lunch.  Well, it's popular so while it wasn't jam packed, it was pretty busy for a 3ish lunch.  That weird bit of lovely in a basket is called the Burnt Cheese burger.  We got ours on Texas toast and I got sweet potato tots and he got waffle fries so we could each try the other side.  Holy schmoly.  I am SO recreating this!  The bacon we added was SO thick and the burnt cheese was heavenly.  The sweet potato tots were good but damn, those waffle fries were awesome and I'm not even a fan of the waffle fry.  If you find yourself in the area, get thee to Punch Burger!

We attempted to go to Rocket Fizz in the downtown circle cluster you-know-what but it was too crowded and we were not going to pay for another parking garage like at the burger place.  ($5 and we were too lazy to circle around their wonky streets 20x looking for off street parking)  So we skipped that place and headed out to Carmel for another antique store.  The town looked really cute and they have these great public art installments everywhere.

The antique store was okay and the owner was really knowledgeable but we didn't find anything Earth shattering in there.  If we had more time, we probably would've explored more.

Now, I don't know if it's always like this or if it was because it was the first 80+ degree day they experienced there but these people do not know the concept of personal space.  Everyone walks WAY too close to you, including a man who literally almost tripped the Mr up three different times and some people taking three kids out to Punch Burger who thought it would be awesome to have their 3 year old hang off the back of the Mr's chair.  The looks on our faces must've conveyed this was NOT okay because they moved before they got their food.  I'm sorry but that is not cool to let your kid hang all over strangers and expect we're going to think it's cute.  It's not.  They also crowd you in and cut you off all the time.  I can't count how many people would just drift into our lane or almost hit us.  I really hand it to the Mr for keeping his forehead vein in check of a few near misses.  Finally, who the hell built the streets in that town!?!?  They were the most confusing thing not just for us but I'm pretty sure I heard the GPS guy say "f**k it.  I give up!"  No offense to any readers in Indianapolis.  Again, I'm hoping to blame it on a release of winter cabin fever.  ;-)

Then Sunday, we bought the couch and loveseat locally that we drove there to sit on.  I can't wait for it to come but now this means chit just got real and we need to paint the living room within the next month or it'll totally look stupid against our current wall paint.  Aces.

We did the grocery refuel for the week which seemed to take forever and then walked for our workout until our hips gave out and I got a groin pull.  Fun!

What did you do this weekend?

  1. It was a great trip! Definitely worth it being able to see the chair in person VS spending a ton of money on something that you can only see online, with no ability to return it. The food was awesome. I know we indulged a bit much but it was so worth it to me. Had a great weekend with my best friend!

    1. Yes it was and yes we did. I know we don't usually eat out for breakfast but man, that was sooooo good. No regrets.

  2. I live about 2.5 hours from Indy. Had I known you were going to be there, I would've gone to Broad Ripple, been totally geeked out to be in the presence of a such a great blog writer, and would've hung off of the back of your chair at Punch Burger due to all of the excitement. :) I'm glad you had such a nice road trip!

    1. We could've tried on old prom dresses and 70's flowered muu muu's! LOL If you ever road trip there, that whole area is really cool within a 5 block radius. We just didn't have time to explore it. They have a great path system both in the city and heading to the burbs.

  3. Obviously I wasn't nearly as busy as you, or doing things that were so much fun, while tempting my wallet, but the weekend sure flew by anyhow. Du used to hate it when kids would hang over the booth behind us, so he made sure our children were never allowed to do that. However, when we go out to eat with the grandkids, he gets real frustrated when their parents (our sons) do not reprimand their kids for misbehaving in public, or at least not behaving to HIS standards.

Love the public artwork you found. That picture that is captured in the sculpture of the soldier kissing the nurse has always been one of my favorites. I remember my mother's stories of downtown Lincoln, Nebraska, when the war ended in 1945, how everyone crowded into the streets in celebration, and I can imagine some indiscriminate, joyful kissing going on like that captured in the infamous picture.

Love your new chair--we also could use some new chairs, Du's recliner is in bad shape. For once, it's not MY chair that broke first, which was the case for so many years before I lost weight. Of course the chairs are over 10 years old, so I was sitting in it for years before losing weight. I guess the chair forgave me, since I quit stressing it out so much in the last few years. I'm giving the chair human qualities, kind of like Joey's chair, Rosita, in Friends. Remember how it healed itself (or so Joey thought), maybe that's what happened with my chair?!

    1. Be glad, I think the Mr and I are draggin' butt big time today! I've gotta say, I agree with Du. There needs to be a bit of code of conduct. Others are all trying to enjoy their time out too. ;-)

You would love Carmel. Very quaint town, statues like that all over the town and lots of great shops and restaurants to explore. The kissing statue was my favorite.

I think the couch we have now was with us through the heaviest years. I'm sinking in "my" spot and it was time. I'm done with couches that have cushions on the back. They're a pain in mah butt to keep fluffed and in place. I didn't watch Friends regularly so that doesn't sound familiar but I think that's what my couch has done. It's seen and felt a lot. I think it's ready to go to someone else now. I'll have to make a call to a local charity to donate them.

  4. Saturday beautiful and warm. We had the little guy's soccer game in the morning, then some errands, and ended up playing soccer in the park in the afternoon. Then Sunday was cold and dreary and the little guy wasn't feeling well (we're home sick from school today) and then it snowed.

    1. Well, I'm glad you got to enjoy Saturday. Sorry the little guy is sick but enjoy the unexpected day off and snuggle time!

  5. Are you sure the groin pull was from walking? ;)

Sounds like a perfect weekend! My Mr. and I like to do the same thing on weekends, just meander.

That burger joint sounds DELICIOUS. I love finding random spots that have good reviews. I would have done the exact same thing.

    MmmmmmMmmm... waffle fries....

    1. I'd love to say it was from sexaerobics but nay...just a buttload of walking adding up to my thigh crack saying "lady...PLEASE stop walking today or I'm going to cramp up and drop you!" If you should have the chance to go, sample that burger. Until we can make our way back, I'm making a version of it one of these weekends!

  6. Man I could spread fruit preserves on anything and make it better. And I mean anything. Not just the edible stuff.

  7. Sounds like such a great weekend for you! Mine was low key but productive with taking care of things around the house and running some errands. I had a super meeting on Saturday morning and put together some Longaberger Baskets I'm giving away for a conference. Took care of the chores early so those were off my mind. We had two massive hail storms that looked like a snowstorm so we took pictures of that and sent them to mom. Today the snow is blowing sideways--all this after it hit almost 80 degrees on Saturday!

    1. Productive is good. It makes the house feel a little more at peace which rubs off on you. (As I look around my house bomb that seemed to go off) Mother Nature seems to be off her meds lately!

  8. My Hubby loved mixed fruit so much I ordered an entire case from a restaurant owner once! I am jelly you went to Indy, my bro and his family live there and I don't see them often! I cleaned, shopped, laundry and watched it pour rain and hail all weekend. Also watched Wolf of Wallstreet, how terribly disappointing that one was! Glad you got out of Dodge. I am curious where you call homebase because Girl, I got "nose trouble" as the old gals at work say. Can you directionally give me a clue as you seem to hover around my area so you must be close. I am in the NW burbs of Chi-town, Crystal Lake.

    1. Mixed fruit jelly is so yummy and I hope the hubby was grateful because that was super sweet!! We consider anything within 6 hours eligible for a day trip depending on what we're going to see. I think the closest we've been to your neck of the woods is Highland Park as we were doing our John Hughes movie location tour. Nothing like driving by Ginny's church from Sixteen Candles or the "high school" (currently police station) from The Breakfast Club, etc.

  9. Wow! What a fun weekend! I love the idea of a burnt cheese sandwich! I think I might make an egg over easy version. I've never had mixed fruit jelly but if I ever find one I will enjoy it while thinking of you, for sure! I also enjoyed the hail storm that Dawn survived. Plus a whole lot of movie watching, and twiddling thumbs.

    1. Oh yeah baby, burnt cheese makes everything better! LOL Mixed fruit tastes similar to apple jelly (the only jelly I buy) but still there's just something about the mixed fruit on the little container that takes me back to childhood breakfasts after church with my dad's side of the family. Sometimes movies and thumb twiddling is in order. ;-)
