Fitness beat down and another bad rental

We got our butts handed to us last night courtesy of Turbo Fire.  We've been doing less intense forms of cardio so jumping back into that was like "HA, your endurance is lower, idiots!"   We've been focusing on strength too so I think that helped with the cardio burn...1025 calories for me last night.  I haven't burned that in a while.  Physical therapy was balance board, foam rolling my IT bands and ankle massages.

Dinner was blackened chicken alfredo and green beans.  Twas quite delish.

We rented August: Osage County last night.  Wow, it was one of the hardest movies we've sat through in a long time.  Actually since last week when we wasted two hours on Anchorman 2.  I counted at least 12 times the Mr wanted to turn it off.  I did too but I was invested and had to see it through.  Sigh.  I hate that I had to sit through over an hour of misery to get to the meat and potatoes of the movie.  Then when the unfulfilling ending came, it made me want to hurl a cinder block through the TV.  It had its moments that held your attention but overall, it was just a miserable movie to watch...like an uncomfortable meeting with the in-laws that will never end.

Speaking of which, the Mr is having lunch with his mother today.  I'd like to remind him that ribs are fatty and sauces on the side.  ;-)

Rented any stinkers lately?

  1. That blackened chicken was amazing. Loved it! The movie? Hated it. Ugh! What a painful watch. But I suppose they got what they were wanting, which was to recreate an uncomfortable and awkward family get together. I guess I just don't care much for watching a complete train wreck of a family but some might find that entertaining. But Meryl's acting was excellent, I wouldn't take that away from her.

    1. I haven't made that in quite some time! I made that for my bridesmaids luncheon back in the day and S still talks about it as one of her favorite meals! :-) No, I wouldn't take away Meryl's amazing acting in the movie but I definitely wouldn't recommend it to people unless they need to feel better about their own effed up family! LOL

  2. We rented a kids movie and one called "Hungover Games" this weekend. Neither of which I would recommend to anyone. Ever.

    1. Sadly, we rented Hungover Games...even more sad...it was slightly better than Anchorman 2. *shudder*

  3. Is the recipe for blackened chicken on here? I will have to check. Du loves anything that is blackened, I'm not such a big fan of it, but would sure be willing to try it for him.

Sorry to hear August: Osage County was so painful to watch. I was thinking of watching it, since I'm a fan of both Julia and Meryl, also love Margo Martindale, (except for her new role in "The Miller's, I had to quit watching that show, because she is so annoying). I bought '12 Years a Slave' quite some time ago and we have not watched it yet. My friend said she went to the theater to see it, and wanted to walk out, but was with friends, so she stayed for the whole thing. It was just too painful to watch she said. She is in a fragile state, having lost her husband 14 months ago, so her opinion might have been affected by that. I suppose I could turn it off if I wanted, since I'll be watching at home. Always appreciate your movie reviews!

    1. No, I just throw it together. Pasta of your choice, 2 servings of light alfredo sauce (I use Classico) and I use the Spicy Mrs Dash on the chicken as I cook it since blackening seasoning has so much sodium in it. Pretty easy!

I am SO glad to hear I'm not the only one that had to stop watching The Millers because of her. I absolutely LOVE her in dramas...Dexter, The Americans, etc. So talented but the writing for her character on The Millers is ridiculous. We wanted to love The Crazy Ones as well because we're both big Robin Williams fans but the rest of the cast just brings it down so we had to can it. (Except we're watching tomorrow for the Mork and Mindy reunion)

I wanted to like that movie but it just dragged so bad and was hard to follow at times the first hour. The Mr tuned out pretty quickly but got interested when all the secrets came out. The second it was over he said "THANK GOD that's over!" LOL I never want to steer anyone away from renting something but I just say, it is NOT a feel good movie. :-) (Even with the amazing cast. That's usually my first tip off it's going to be bad...an all star cast)

  4. My husband and I rented Haunted House from Netflix. Its a spoof of Paranormal Activity. I didn't want to, but my husband wanted to and my kids 9 & 7 wanted to see what it was about because they had seen commercials where the girl in it farts really bad, and they find that kind of humor hilarious. Well about 10 mins into it even my husband decided to turn it off, after watching the man in the movie "go to the movies" with a stuffed dog.

    1. We fell victim to the trailer on that one too. It got a few laughs but it was nothing I would recommend to people. The Scary Movie spoofs are way better.

  5. Well, at least Ewan Mcgregor was in that August Osage county movie..i didn't see it..will wait until hbo. I've seen some interesting movies on showtime beyond.. Clone with Eva Green and Perfect Sense (Eva Green and EWAN MCGREGOR)...also, at the movies 300 rise of an empire -eva green again . And Noah. I really really liked Noah. I find that a lot of people are anti against this movie because they find it too fantastical. Well, some of the things are that way, but then they were that way too in the Bible.

    1. I'm sensing you may like Ewan McGregor? ;-) I don't know that I would rent Noah because I reaaaaally don't like Russell Crowe but if it's on Amazon Prime I might. Uhh, aren't movies *supposed* to be fantastical!? I mean isn't that why they spend millions so we can suspend our disbelief? At least that's what I think! :-)

  6. I don't know that any movie I will EVER rent will be as bad as Southland Tales. If you haven't seen it, I suggest you should. The entire movie left me with an open-mouthed "huh?" face. I still, to this day, have no idea what it's about.

PS, what kind of pasta is that? Love the wide noodles!

    1. We saw that. It was HORRIBLE! BOO!!!

The noodles are Trader Joe's Lemon Pepper egg noodles. The proper name starts with a p. Pappardelle or something like that?
