First 2020 Weekend in the Books

(via)

Happy Monday all!  I hope you had a great weekend!  It was pretty chill over this way just like I hoped.  The mild weather continues and nothing within a 6-hour drive has any snow.  (Somehow people are still complaining about winter when they haven't seen a single flake.  SHUT IT!  You obviously are complaining just to complain.  Save it for something good.)

We went to an old school restaurant for lunch and we went to try to pick up this snowflake projector thingy so we could "decorate" any cabin we'll get for Christmas.  Despite two locations saying they had them from an email I got, neither location did.

I did get a few small Christmas items for this year's festivities but not much.  I have a serious surplus of gift bags I will never use.  I might have to just give those up because they're a good size but I'm one to wrap over gift bag something because I know I personally like opening a present more than pulling out tissue paper.  I guess it's just the kid in me.

We finished Dirty John on Netflix.   I know a lot of you probably watched it on Bravo so we're the last to see it.  Dang was that good!  It's been a LONG time since the two of us have screamed, hooted and hollered at a finale.  Definitely a good one for the queue and try not to let your head explode from the high pitched vocal fry from her two daughters.

I've already begun trying to work on some stuff on a personal level by notifying people that I'll probably only do cookies every other year now.  This year just about killed me and I know there were some extenuating circumstances for a few of the extra batches I baked.  (Two friends I don't usually bake for having a hard time and let's face it, homemade cookies make it better.)  But I also didn't want people to be mad at me.  I told the one friend and it was hard because I know how much he loves them and considers it his Christmas present even though I still give him something for Christmas.  He was so loving and understanding and it was a relief.  I told my other friend that I usually slide some in her gifts too and she was also great.  I may stick to just making a batch of snowballs for the mothers because that's the only one my family won't make and those are ones my mom shared a love for with Grandma.  I'm not committing to them but I know me.  I also asked for some help with something easy from the Mr that I was building up in my head.  He was more than happy to do it  (okay, maybe an overstatement) and I need to remember asking for help or setting boundaries for my own mental health doesn't make me a burden or disappointment.

Sunday we got up late and I made a healthier brunch than normal.

I made some flourless banana mac nut pancakes since I had a buttload of ripe bananas to use, we had some chicken sausage to use (which we weren't super impressed with) and eggs with some nutritional yeast and half an apple.  We relaxed a bit then midday we went for a three-mile walk around the hood for our workout because I just wasn't feeling getting down in the basement.  I guess when you don't have ice to traverse, you take advantage of it.  (My version of trying to make the best of a poopie winter.)

We started watching one of my Christmas gifts, and once we saw it was a long one, we watched the first hour to stretch it over a few days.  I made dinner and got to work on this while the Mr watched his episode of Lost in Space.  Then it was time to cozy in for the night.

I'm in zero hurry for that view to change so yeah, Christmas is still alive and well in our house.

What did you do this weekend?

  1. Sounds like you started the New Year off gently which will set the tone for the year. I had kohls cash to burn so I did that friday with my little. We scored a gingerbread house for $2 and decorated it up. Saturday I had a dreaded trip to the dmv which went surprisingly well. I spent the rest of the weekend cleaning, doing laundry and reading Elton John's autobiography. I also took the tree down. Have a great week!

  2. My weekend was mostly good. Saturday was not a good day as I had an anxiety attack in the grocery store and it got worse in the parking lot so I was in my car for a long time as I couldn't drive. The rest of that afternoon was pretty fuzzy, as usually happens from the exhaustion of the whole thing. The evening was better though. Sunday was a good day as the hubs didn't have to work so we went to Walmart to pick up some toiletry/pharmacy stuff and saved $21 with the coupons I clipped in the paper. Super excited about that! LOL Then I just had one load of laundry to finish and we relaxed the rest of the day watching football playoff games. Was ready for bed by 9:30pm and off to sleep I went.

  3. Took decorations off tree but leaving tree up with just white lights at least thru January.

I am also leaving three wreaths with white lights in windows in front of the house.

Everything else is stowed in the xmas bins until next year.

In 2018 and then again this year, I evaluated/purged/sold decorations that never get used. Also light stands that were shot were discarded. So I now only have what I use and love and the bins have more room.

I decorate for every holiday, some more than others, but always have a few things out (back door, island, bathroom counters, little holiday shelf, top of hutch). I evaluated/purged/sold out if all of those too. I decorate more, with less, if you know what I mean.

  4. It occurs to me that you could make one type of cookie per year only. And change what you make each year. It is much easier (in my opinion) to make lots of just one kind. And maybe your friends could take turns helping you.
