The Adventure Continues...

Oh, my Lord.  Is it Friday?  What year is it?  Is there snow?

Oh yeah, it's only Tuesday and despite no "formal" workout yesterday again, the Mr's watch said he burned almost 900 calories.  He went to orange hell and bought a 6' shelf that we could cut down to 5' then it was time to get down to business with the door frame.  We used a combination square that people in YT videos used to make our 1/4" reveal on the door jamb.

After a buttload of shims due to a wonky wall situation that had nothing to do with us, we were finally able to get that friggin thing up.

I won't even tell you how much caulk it will take to backfill the gaps, but I got started on that too.  The solution I'd envisioned for the bottom of the wood planks wasn't going to work, and I mentally waved the white flag.  The Mr suggested something, and we brainstormed, and it worked.   Unfortunately, we still needed to go to orange hell with fluorescent lighting again.

This time it was to get baseboards which as you know is a finishing touch on a wall.

I wanted something straightforward, no scribing or stacking because it's a basement, it didn't need to be fancy.  I painted all of the pieces we needed, and thankfully, it installed pretty quickly.

We're at the last two parts we've been dreading the most, but we called it a night because it was getting later and we were friggin' toast.  I really hope today we can get a good portion of those who shall not be named done and I can work on the shelf, and we can hopefully get the shelf back up soon.  It would be so nice to not do workouts from a tablet on a ladder.

Have our DIY adventures inspired you to take on your own or reinforced why you hire out?

  1. We have made progress nearly every day and yet it seems like there is still so much to do. If you so much as suggest any more projects this year I'm going to faint.

    1. None that you'll need to be involved in, dear heart. 😁😁

  2. I'm inspired! I have an area in my laundry room that needs a new sheet of drywall installed and am actually thinking about doing it myself because of you two. In my experience, the more challenges in the project, the more gratifying admiring the end result is for me. Can't wait to see the reveal!

  3. You can totally do it! I will say, go with the paper tape. We both regret using the mesh tape but it was a "learning wall." This guy was incredibly helpful. https://youtu.be/W-p7pvnMAq8 This is a long version but you can search his drywall videos and get them in parts if you prefer.

  4. We don't really have any projects here at the house other than painting some rooms that stand out. We do need a new deck and if we were keeping the same size, we'd be able to do that ourselves because the hubs did construction for years and is handy with that kind of stuff and is a good teacher. But I want to extend the deck the length of the back of the house to garage and the outdoor faucet would then be covered and not easy to get to, so we said we'd have the professionals come in to help us with that. Still waiting on the windows to come in, and if there is time after that project, then we'll have some trees taken out in the backyard and a shed put in. I'm hopeful to do that this year, but if it doesn't work, then it'll be next spring and the deck afterwards.

    1. That sounds like a good project to tackle and better to hire out since you've got the tricky situation there. We just got our call yesterday that we're on the schedule for September 6 for the windows. Hope you get your call soon! I think you were 2 weeks ahead of us on the purchase.

    2. Looks like we're on tap for next Wed/Thurs barring any weather issues with the current jobs. I told him we're flexible so if they have customers that are really anxious to work with them first. He'll call on Friday to let us know for sure since we'll each need to take a day off of work (or I may see if I can switch my days at work so he doesn't waste a vacation day). Now to finish cleaning out those rooms! Egads!!!
