Food Review: Kashi Honey Cinnamon

If you want to get technical, it's Kashi by Kids, but I didn't want you to skip over it thinking "I don't eat kids cereals" because don't act like on occasion you don't.  (We tried the Lucky Charms Frosted Flakes in Maine, and I swear I heard angels sing.)  I always wanted to try Apple Jacks when I was a kid, and I don't think I ever did.  Since I am a kid at heart, these called to me as I passed them...

The Mr and I agreed to split them.  No, it wasn't the "super food combos" that drew us in, it was the fact they looked like baby cinnamon rolls and apple pies because we're healthy like that.  If I saw the "made with red lentils" part at the bottom, I might've passed them right up.

Here's a peek at the nutritional info:

Little rolls of cinnamon lentily goodness and pillows of apple pie(ish) filling awaits!

So how did it taste?

We liked it!  My wish list would be for more apple filling in the middle of the pillows since it kind of sticks to the walls of the cereal but when isn't apple and cinnamon a good combo?  I think this would be perfect for kids and kids at heart.  Obviously, this isn't going to be the cereal you're looking to eat when you want something high fiber and protein, and it's not going to leave you very full for long.  Even though it was about 4 hours later before I got hungry but when I did, it was what we call "drop hunger."  Where it feels like everything dropped out of your stomach, and it's shrieking like a banshee to be fed.  But if that kid in you is jonesing for an apple cinnamon cereal without a ridiculous amount of sugar, this could definitely scratch that itch!

What was your favorite cereal as a kid?  As an adult?

  1. I am glad we tried this and it is good. But yeah it does not hold me very long so I have to eat an egg or something with it for the extra protein. My favorite cereal as a kid was Cinnamon Toast Crunch followed closely by Lucky Charms and Frosted Flakes. Hard to choose honestly.

    1. Forgot to say, as an adult my favorite is the Kash Dark Cocoa Karma and before anyone questions the healthiness of that one, look at the protein content in that!

  2. Mmmmmmm.....cereal. Cereal is definitely something I can't have in the house for very long. It is hard for me to pick a favorite. The ones I always go back to are Cheerios (plain or multigrain) and Life. Rice Krispies were a big one in our house growing up but now my mom keeps Lucky Charms for the grandkids (weird how that works out).

  3. I loved Frosted Flakes and Froot Loops as a kid. As an adult it's been Rice Chex and plain Cheerios. I've been eating three different kinds of protein cereal with cinnamon lately and I like all three of them so far too.

  4. Too many kids cereals to list that I like. Peanut butter cap'n crunch would have to be at the top of the list. Speaking of peanut butter, I did try the Kashi peanut butter cereal, and it is very tasty, but like the cinnamon, it doesn't hold very long.

  5. Growing up my favorite cereal was Golden Grahams. As an adult I get the occasional craving for Captain Crunch or Frosted Flakes. Once in a while I see something I can't resist trying (Nutter Butter cereal - are you serious? Of course I have to buy that). Mostly though I'm not much of a cereal person and when I do eat it I'm more likely to use it as a night-time snack than breakfast.

  6. When I was a kid we had to eat Shredded Wheat or those puffed cereals with absolutely no taste. In my younger days (20's and 30's) you couldn't get anything but Frosted Flakes or Cap'N Crunch (any variety but ESPECIALLY Christmas Crunch!) at my house. Now that I'm old(er), I don't eat any cereal....

    1. My parents loved puffed rice and shredded wheat. It makes me think of miniature hay bales!!
