Sodium bombs, new duds and open house love

Weekends are never long enough, are they?

Remember when I mentioned the Mr's sodium was out of control in my weigh in Saturday?  Well I decided to do some investigating in his FitDay to see what the culprit could be other than the things we already suspected.  I did a sodium breakdown by food and saw his salad dressing was coming up as 800mg and I knew that wasn't right as he purposely only gets things under 300mg.  Well, it would help if someone would put they're having 2 tablespoons instead of 2 SERVINGS of something.  The thing is, he doesn't even have 2 full tablespoons of dressing because it won't fit into his little holder so he's been screwing himself on Zesty Italian for who knows how long.  So that knocked 600mg off then we're going to have him finish off the Laughing Cows and won't replenish that supply.  He was using unauthorized Ole High Fiber tortillas (you know, the ones I buy for fish tacos and chicken quesadillas?) for lunches and they recently SERIOUSLY jacked up their sodium to 350mg and lowered the fiber so buh bye.  Instead, we bought Tumaro's low carb tortillas and they have 60mg of sodium and 80 calories or something like that.  They taste like stale cardboard on their own but I always stuff 'em with something good so we'll just have to adjust.  His 460mg cottage cheese went byebye for grody low salt kind for the protein and to keep him fuller during the day.  We got some pre-portioned raw almonds from TJ's to help balance the cheese we're having to cut out from his lunches.  He's required to pre-plan all of his meals the night before so he can pay attention to the sodium. So hopefully this helps...it already has for today's food...under 1900mg of sodium!

I got some tops for the trip in a few months from Avenue and low and behold they actually had some cute tops that weren't all cap sleeves!  Hallelujah!

I got a black and light blue ruched polo shirt which makes my chestage area look pretty dang good with an underwire bra and the crossover v-neck shirts actually have sleeves!  Those are really flattering so I picked up four of those.  That should about do me for a while. They're just fitted enough that even if I went down another size they'd probably still look okay so I think they'll last me a while.

We came up with a great Total Trainer/Free Weight hybrid workout yesterday.  The Mr wants to do more rower workouts so he found a good one on Shape.com of all places and he's going to do that tomorrow.

We went to two open houses and fell in love twice.  We may need to stop doing that.  The place we fell in love with last week?  Gone.  The area we're looking in barely has any inventory and when they do, they snatch 'em up.  Sigh.

What did you do this weekend?

  1. Thanks for helping point out the sodium issues I was having. Luckily a lot of it was just bad reporting in Fit Day, so I wasn't actually getting quite as much sodium. But I still need to keep it under 2300 mg per day so I definitely need to be diligent from now on.

    1. I'll have to go through the rest of your regular stuff from previous high sodium days to see if you're screwing yourself elsewhere. :) But yeah, even without those errors it was still way too high.

  2. I buy those Ole High Fiber tortillas. I'll have to check the label to see what else they might have changed. Fortunately, what I'm putting IN them usually has no sodium, but I do like my black olives so I might need to cut back on those.

Love those tops! I want to buy a couple of new ones for the season, but so far I've only seen cap sleeves. ::curses::

    1. Definitely check 'em out. I don't know if they did that across the board but it was enough to say "nope, not gonna do it!" Thanks! I thought they were cute too and I wasn't planning on finding anything so when I do, I've gotta snap 'em up. I'm also going to keep my eye on them as the season progresses so I can get any remaining colors on a better sale.

  3. Those are nice tops. I may have to go take a look at the website. I'm leery buying clothes online, but when I have bit the bullet and done it I've always been happy.

My folks called Friday morning and asked if they could come for the weekend so we had a nice surprise visit with them most of the weekend. Then after they left Sunday we did a mad dash housecleaning and then went bowling in the afternoon. We picked up a bowling ball at a yard sales a few years ago and I took that in to have the holes filled and then re-drilled for me, so next Sunday I'll have my very own bowling ball. I feel kind special. I'm still crap at the game, but I'll feel special.

    1. Thanks! I know what you mean, I hate buying online. I bought a few Jessica London tops that I bought after I went by their measurements and of course the material was more clingy so yes, it might be that size when they're clinging to your rolls but not so much if you don't wanna expose your dough girl figure. Sigh.

Sounds like you had a nice visit and look at you snazzy pants, your very own bowling ball! Doesn't matter how good or bad you are at the game...having your own ball = badass. If nothing else maybe it will intimidate others until they figure out your secret! HA!

  4. Hey

How about trying some rotis (indian tortillas) from the indian store. They usually sell ready made rotis (in the fridge section in ziplock bag and not freezer section) which are whole wheat, taste better and are all natural...

or u could make them ahead (which I do..once u get the hang of it, they are easy to make with durum whole wheat flour)...its better...low sodium and natural..and way tastier...

i ate bad on the weekend...but luckily all home made food...

  5. Have you thought about easing up on the sodium restriction and just upping potassium? Has the same effect. I added blackberries to my breakfast and a few other foods throughout the day and found that they acted like a wonderful diuretic. I think it's still a great idea to watch the salt, but no need to eat bad replacement foods.

    1. Oh we both get plenty of potassium for sure. I just bought some blackberries for the first time to add to my fruit salad for a little variety. It'll be interesting to see if they make a repeat performance. The only "bad" replacement food is just bad tasting on it's own is the cottage cheese but he'll be adding fruit or something to balance it out so it's all good. He needs to watch his sodium because of potential health problems that run in his family and his sodium was double what is recommended. I want him around for a long time so he's going to have to start caring since we're not young pups anymore. ;)

  6. We scouted the venue for St. Patrick's Day gig by our favorite local band, and decided to stay for lunch. I virtuously had fish tacos instead of the burger and fries that were calling my name. I did steal one of DH's fries, but my tacos were so good! Time change always kicks my butt for about a week, so I'm really tired this morning, in spite of not doing anything strenuous all weekend. But today is supposed to be the first of a week of warm days, so I'm hoping to get out and turn over the soil in my little garden, so I can set up the little greenhouses for early tomatoes. Excited!

    1. Sounds like you had a good weekend! YAY! Good on ya for getting the fish tacos! Enjoy getting your hands in the dirt for the first time this season! Always exciting to think of planting season coming up!

  7. I have not started looking at my sodium yet. I'm just working on calories for the moment but I'm sure it has an effect. This weekend wasn't too exciting. I did some spring cleaning and tried to recover from a cold so I made a lot of soup. Nothing too exciting. Glad your weekend went well!

    1. If you're in the mood to spring clean my house, come on over. :) Hope you're feeling better soon!

  8. It's crazy how easy it is to go over sodium for the day. I can be dead-on for calories, fat, carbs, etc, but sodium always hovers around 2000 (or more). Cheese is usually the biggest culprit.

    1. I know! There's sodium in the weirdest places. Mmm, cheese. LOL

  9. I don't usually have to worry about my sodium being too high. If anything I have to worry about it being too low.

I really like those tops you picked out! I know what you mean about the cap sleeves! It seems like that's the only kind of sleeve they put on tops anymore. Ugh!

  10. Cute shirts! I saw a cute one in the Roamans catalog that has a bit of a tiered look to it, but what makes it really cute is the sleeves have the same tiered concept and reach down to the elbows. I'm going to give that a try and see how it looks on my roundness. =o)

This weekend was meh. I worked on shredding piles and did laundry and ran errands, but then lounged around. I was in a grumpy mood (just ask the hubs)perseverating on work, so that kind of blew it for me. I took this Friday off just to have a day off for me (my first one since September) so I'm looking forward to that.
