Cake pops, 80's movie and mayo

I am sooo tired.  Thursday-Saturday were cleaning days and man did this house need it.  I think I forgot there was an actual floor in the house and not some forcefield holding things up.  We had until 10:30am Sunday morning to get everything clean because my mom and aunt were coming over for lunch and a cake ball/pop class.  Well the time you have is the time it takes in the world of procrastinators.  I was literally throwing away a Clorox wipe when I was answering the door to let my cousin in.  (I enticed him with the lure of chili)  But it was nice to have the whole house clean and not have to have a door closed or say "excuse the  (insert messy room here)."

It was a nice day.  I taught them how to make cake balls then made the guts of another recipe for them to freeze.  The Mr hung the Christmas lights out front (we always hang them the weekend before Thanksgiving so we can flip the switch Black Friday).

We watched St. Elmo's Fire (affiliate link)  for the first time.  I think I might've seen bits and pieces of it when I was a teenager but I had no clue what they were talking about.  Now I think I needed to be of a certain age in the 80's to enjoy it because they all irritated the hell out of me and I wanted to punch them.  We had to stop halfway through for me to take a nap and I was jolted awake by the sound of a huge THUD.  I looked over to see the Mr cursing under his breath with a huge glob of mayo hanging off of his face.  I thought I was hallucinating or maybe interrupting a "There's Something About Mary " moment.  (affiliate link)   Nope.  (Thank God)  Here he was trying to quietly put away the mayo and dropped it on the floor, it fountained into the air hitting him in the face and shirt.

I giggled, thought he was cute then tried to wake up a little more.  Then I started giggling again as I asked if I could include it.  He said he'd take one for the team.  I began to laugh hysterically because that was one heck of a way to be awakened from a nap.  Then as he was proofreading this he was amazed at how it shot up and said "I wonder if it hit the ceiling?"  He got up and went to the kitchen and I hear "you've got to be kidding me!"

What did you do this weekend?

  1. I definitely learned something new about the laws of mayo physics there - none of it got on my legs, it just shot straight up to my face, the ceiling and my shirt. Eau de Mayo is not a scent I like to wear!

    1. You may not like to wear it but you looked damn funny! I'm just grateful you thought of that so I wasn't standing there making my lunch and end up with a glop on my head!

  2. Nothing so exciting as erupting mayo I'm afraid. A nice visit with my folks, and a sick kiddo.

  3. I am reminded of a related experience with some Kraft Pesto salad dressing. It has cheese in it and the top clogged while I was trying to put it on my salad. Extra force will help, won't it? No, the little plastic insert blew out instead and I had that lovely green salad dressing everywhere (including the tops of the kitchen cabinets.) That was a memory that stayed with me for several years as I kept discovering new little green blobs in the kitchen.

    Happily, there were no witnesses.

    1. I can't stop laughing. That is so something that would happen to us. "Are we having pesto for dinner, it smells good in here!"

  4. Score one for not reading everything completely. After I first read this on the little screen on my phone I missed the part about taking a break for a nap. And I was sitting here picturing you guys watching a movie in the living room and you fell asleep and woke up to him in the living room with a jar of mayo. Then im sitting here wondering what kind of movie night involves snuggling with mayo resulting in one of you plus the ceiling being covered in it. A fun one I would guess! Thank you for taking one for the team Mr. And letting your funny story be included. It had me laughing this morning too. :)
My weekend included me being covered in white too, but mine was paint. We started a project to clean our closet, next thing I know we are painting and ripping out old moldy shelves. I am clumsy, our closet is tiny and my husband is not tiny so I ended up covered in white primer. But it looks But so much nicer! Hooray!

    1. We like to spoon with a bad movie and mayo on occasion. We're kinky like that! :) When you're done painting your place, come on over and do our bathroom. It's small and I'll cook for you!

  5. I dropped a quart jar of mustard on the floor once. Luckily it dropped at a slight angle away from me, but it showered the wall, the ceiling and even made it across the room. All you can do is laugh! Glad to know I'm not alone in dropping condiments. Now I only by the 16 oz squirt containers of mustard so the accident can't be repeated.
St Elmo's Fire was wonderful when I saw it as a teen in the theater! I haven't watched it in years, but would have to agree that the characters and story would irritate me if I watched it now.
We spent a couple of hours on Sunday cleaning out our minivan as a family. There is no telling what kind of germs were unleashed in the process, but it was filthy.

    1. I could only laugh because it was white and went with the ceiling. Now if it had been mustard, I wouldn't have been laughing. ;) I can't remember how old I was when it came out, definitely pre-teen but I couldn't relate at all. Tried to watch it as a teen and got bored. Then the song from the movie came on and the Mr said "you need to see that just so you can say you have." We rented it and both agreed sometimes it's not that you don't understand a movie, sometimes it's just bad.

  6. Teen of the 80s checkin' in... One great thing about St. Elmo's Fire? The hair... Brings a smile to my face every time... Ah, man - nothing like 80s hair (I so rocked it!).

Sorry about the Mr Mayo adventure - did you tell him about the moisturizing properties? Just gotta go with stuff like that...

    1. Love the hair in St Elmo's Fire. I remember my crimper. I'm still paying the price for 80's hair but wouldn't have it any other way. I should've just told him to rub it on his face and rinse in 10 minutes for smooth soft skin.

  7. *VOMIT* I don't have mayo in my house b/c I loathe it so this would never happen to me, but if it did I would *DIE* just DIE!!!! After I ran for the bathroom and yacked my brains out of course. *shudders*

  8. I can't believe you of all people never saw St. Elmo's Fire! I love that movie, but if I tried to watch it now for the first time, I'm sure I'd hate it.

    1. I know, right!? But it was too old for me at the time and I never got around to watching it so I tried to watch with an open mind knowing 20+ years has passed. But nope, they were all just self centered, annoying jackasses and WTH was Mare Whittingham doing in there. She looked like 40 year old 80's mom at 22!

  9. Ah, 80s angst movies. This one and The Breakfast Club are two I avoid these days. :)

    1. The Breakfast Club is one of my faves, I just can't believe they were made the same year. The acting in St Elmo's was HORRIBLE and it was AFTER TBC so I know they had good acting in them. I think it might speak more to the directing than anything.

  10. Ha! I did that with a can of pumpkin a few weeks ago. For days I was finding little spots of pumpkin that I had missed when doing my initial clean up. I haven't seen St. Elmo's Fire either--I am a bad child of the 80s!

    1. Trust me when I tell you, you're not missing anything. I think you'd have to be a certain age in the 80's to like it or maybe have a massive crush on Rob Lowe (I didn't like him) to find his antics endearing. Meh.

  11. I once had a glass mayo jar strike my toe when I was a kid. If it wasn't broken, it was as close as any toe can get! OW!

As for my weekend? Craft shows with the oldest, then shopping, cleaning, and family portraits.

    1. I hear ya. I dropped a can of baked beans on my foot from about 3 ft up and it has taken 5 years for the damage to finally be almost over.

      Sounds like a fun weekend!
