Prince party - Weigh In

Since Prince makes sure any of his work is taken off YouTube, this is where I would insert a video of his song 1999.  Why?  Because with my 2 lb loss today, it puts me at dragon slayer number.  (Aka- I haven't seen this weight since the Mr and I lost 85 lbs back in 1999.)  So it's like from this point out I've got 35 lbs to go before I hit my high school weigh so that's the next milestone I'm aiming for.

Here's where the but comes in.  It's birthday weekend and unfortunately there are lots of less than healthy treats planned since I have 2 celebrations today and tomorrow.  But I am going to seriously bust my butt exercise wise this week, drown myself in water, I'm going to lower my calories the first couple days of next week to try to even things out and most importantly, tonight if I'm still somewhat full, I'm not going to eat dinner just because its dinner time.  I'm actually going to listen to my body.  (Shocking)  I might actually do a full cardio and strength tomorrow instead of our usual strength only.  So there is a plan in place to counter balance the cupcakey damage I'm about to indulge in.

At this point, I'm just pray to maintain this coming week.  ;-)

What's on your to do list this weekend?

  1. I'm headed for a visit with my MIL in southwestern Colorado and have no idea what will be on the menu. If it's up to her, it will be fast-food hamburgers; but one of the reasons we're going is to persuade her to stop eating so many of those.

Happy birthday, happy cupcake indulgence, and WOOHOO for the 2-lb loss!

No real plans this weekend. My folks might come for a visit, but they haven't decided yet. Otherwise it'll just be typical weekend chores and lazying about.

  5. Happy Birthday!!

Me and boyfriend are going to wander around this reservoir in our state for a few hours today, we're picking a mini road trip for tomorrow, a boat on Tuesday, and bumming/homework&studying the rest of the time. Oh the joys of being a grad student (me) and him working on getting his PE (engineer)

  11. As a person who has spent most of her adult life gaining and losing this is what finally works for me: it is okay to eat anything but limiting it to one portion (meaning acting like a normal weight person when eating) - has enabled me to lose 65 pounds and keep it off for a full year. I still have 35 pounds to go BUT it's not what I'm focusing on at this point. To lose a person has to be 'in the zone'; mentally. No matter how hard a person tries to lose weight; if they're not 'in the zone' they'll fail and blame themselves. I did this for decades. Finally; at the age of 54 I decided to try it a new way: portion control - keeping the daily intake within a calorie realm AND daily exercise. After 9 months and a 65 pound loss, I knew I wasn't 'in the zone' anymore. Instead of going back to my former eating patterns (and gaining it back - which is my history), I decided to go the portion control way of eating anything but just what is considered one portion. I did this to maintain the weight loss. I kept up the daily exercise which I actually had come to enjoy. Daily exercise for this (now) 56 year old woman is a minimum of 45 minutes on my exercise bike. Now I add a bit of toning exercise to this as well. I can’t do high impact. I can’t run. I can’t lift heavy weights. I’m limited but I can do my recumbent exercise bike. Doing this enabled me to maintain the weight loss (+/- 3 lbs). For a person who has never learned how to eat right and maintain a weight; this is quite an accomplishment for me. The 35 pounds I still want to lose, calls to me. I know when I'm ready my mind will let me go back to 'the zone'. It’s not something I’ll rush into. I know it's been said so many times but I'll repeat what says it so well for us who strive to lose the excess weight: "It's not the goal but the journey" - and it's the journey that will mold a lifetime of healthy eating habits. If I’d have learned this whilst in my 20s I’d have had a better pregnancy. I wouldn’t have put so much pressure on my legs that led to venous legs (varicose veins). Over the decades the weight put too much stress on my back. Keeping the weight and eating wrong kept me from doing many things and I resent that I didn’t wake up sooner. I let it happen and I harmed my health in ways that will never recover. Finally; FINALLY….I woke up to reality and that I’d die so much younger if I didn’t lose the excess weight. God sent me some internal focus and that in turn led me back to what I call ‘the zone’.
So: enjoy the celebration. Eat anything but keep portion control in mind. You have to allow yourself this and not feel guilty about it. Guilt is a big hurdle to overcome and in order to stave-off binges a person has to allow themselves to eat like a normal person, especially during celebrations. When it's over, jump back into what 'the zone' is for you.
I've done this all along the way, even when I was in 'the zone'. It's worked like nothing has before. Don't be like me and spend decades losing and gaining. If you can find that way to eat right it'll be the way you'll lose the weight (with calorie control and exercise) and then segue into maintaining the weight (with portion control and exercise).
Enjoy the celebration for what it is; social, friends, family, and yes….food.

  17. This weekend we try to restore order after Hurricane Isaac. Schools will reopen Tuesday, we think. My daughter's high school was used as a shelter for evacuees. Not sure if they'll be able to return people to their homes or not with the new problems of locks failing and dams breaking. I'm betting your weekend is a LOT better than ours. lol I hope you have a magical birthday!!

    *hugs*

  18. Happy Birthday Weekend!
It is my birthday weekend too. I started the celebration by walking a 5K (second year), then going and weighing in and losing 2.4 lbs too. How weird is that? I had a birthday party yesterday - and decided to have the cake, 'cause my brother and his wife actually make cake that is good! No other real plans for the rest of the weekend...
Oh - and congrats on slaying the dragon!!!!

  19. Happy Birthday! I just found your page, not quite sure how I got here. Sometimes, when I can't sleep I blog hop. It's better than bar hopping, right? But, wow, I love what you are doing. And congrats on the success. I've added you to my favorites so I can check out your workouts and recipes, but I should probably get some sleep.

As for this weekend, feel free to peek at my blog. I just updated it for today's fun. Have a great weekend!
