I'm a Teatotaler...

...in both senses of the word...the real one (teetotaler- one who abstains from alcohol) and the fictional name I just gave for a pseudo catchy title that hopefully got you here, meaning one who totally drinks tea.  Like that? (Stop rolling your eyes!)

I'm a pretty big wuss when it comes tea flavors.  I like white, green, black and when I go hardcore I roll with English Breakfast tea.  Color me dull.  I drink iced tea everyday and the occasional spot of hot tea which is quickly worming its way into my morning routine as the weather cools down.  When we were in a hotel, they had an array of teas they brought me every morning so I brought some home to try at my leisure.  I tried the orange spice.  Meh.  The Earl Grey.  No thanks.  I even hoped I'd be oh-so-fashionable and see if I was a chai girl.  Chai don't think so.  It doesn't stop there.  When it comes to iced tea I want straight up black tea.  I've been to places that have only raspberry tea or lemon tea and I when I realize that, I order water.  I'm just not cosmopolitan when it comes to tea.  I'm a bore, I know but I'd like to think I make up for it in other areas so I'm fine with my lack of an adventurous side in tea arts.  Tomorrow I'll bring you a recipe that'll have you wanting to dunk it into your morning hot drink of choice so make sure you swing by.

What about you?  Do you drink tea?  What are your favorites?

  1. I'm a Orange Pekoe (black tea?) kinda girl. Nothing else. Not even green tea. It's too bitter tasting for me. Oh, and it has to have sugar. So I haven't been drinking it lately. sigh

  2. I'm totally a coffee girl. I only rarely drink tea, and when I do I don't want it to taste like tea. I like orange spice, or peach, or peppermint, or... and the appeal of iced tea escapes me but I have been trying to "acquire" the taste because I know it's a better option than diet cola.

  4. I like trying different flavors. It's nothing like sitting down with a hot mug of tea. Mint might be my favorite flavor.

  6. Coffee coffee coffee coffee . . . that's my first choice in the mornings, but I do enjoy hot tea from time to time and will try almost any kind. One of the guys we've gotten to know at a little Mediterranean restaurant we frequent gave us some tea with cardamom to enjoy with baklava he wanted us to try (sin, I know!) to have the 'full' baklava experience. Oh. My. Word. It was amazing with baklava; just the right contrast with the sweetness. Not sure I'd drink it all the time, but I'm glad he gave us a sample.

  7. Iced tea gal, here. I never have developed a taste for hot tea, but I try new kinds now and then just to see if anything changes.

  8. No tea for me unless I'm sick. Iced tea with lemon once in a while. I'm with Denise... coffee, please! Being from New Orleans, my coffee has chicory in it. There's a sign in my kitchen that says: Give me coffee and nobody gets hurt. lol

  10. In the mornings, it's coffee. My drug of choice. Since it's just for me, I mix 1/3 decaf & the rest 'regular'coffee. As for tea, ice tea no lemon, year-round. The last year or so my ice tea has been green, it used to be black. During the winter, I love a nice warm mug of tea, usually Orange Spice, Earl Grey, Chamomile, or one of many others that have found their way to cupboard over the years. I have some from mainland China and the boxes alone can be a conversation piece. I'd like to find a local tea shop where I can buy small amounts, loose.

  13. I like most of the Celestial Seasonings brand of herbal teas. My absolute favorite is 'honey vanilla chamomile', also known as heaven. It is almost buttery, very delicious. I unwind each evening with a glass of hot tea. It also helps to fight evening cravings. I like peppermint herbal tea, I drank it for a while instead of coffee - that didn't last long. This girl runs on caffeine and deadlines! :)

  14. I have recently become a teetotaler myself...I was finding that I was drinking too much coffee, and tea has provided me with a different option!

So far I have enjoyed The Good Earth Sunset Red Tea (herbal so totally decaf) the most. I do like Chai tea (especially with a little smidge of sweet cream coffeemate...delicious!). And I've been trying all of the Lipton pyramid tea bags and my faves are Bavarian Wild Berry (black) and Mandarin Orange (green). Tried their vanilla caramel and didn't care for it much. Also tried the peach mango (white) and it's meh...maybe I would like it more in summer. Finally, I just tried the Bigelow Pomegranate (Black) and it was pretty darn yummy!

In other words, I'm trying a lot of different teas and trying to figure out what I like best. So far, I apparently am drawn towards fruity teas. But we will see how that continues as I branch out! :-)
